I would try and go to the link I provided below:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~ck=gp

and enter in your dell service tag and check for drivers for your system. Once you enter your service tag it will display all the drivers needed for your system. Good luck. :smileyhappy:

Go back and look at the original ebay listing too.  If you did not receive the machine as advertised - I would contact the seller and failing his remedy - launch a dispute through ebay.

Please provide the model of your computer, the operating sytem and any specs that you can come up with at to the hardware installed in your computer. This will help us to provide further assistance to you.

You are going to have issues if you cannot get ahold of the seller to transfer the system to you. Your warranty will be vitrually usless as the Dell records will reflect the orginal owner of the system untill such a time as it is transfered.

There is a lot of good help here so do not be afraid to ask.

Contact the seller on ebay

Ask him to provide the first and last name of the owner

Go to Dell Ownership Transfer:

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/change_order/tag_transfer?c=us&cs=rc956922&l=en&s=gen

About your driver, go into device manager, find and highlight the wireless card, right click and select update driver, specify the path to the cd drive and see if windows  detects any drivers on that cd, if so it will install it.

prudence13045,

If your XPS is a 630i, You probably got a Dell Lemon system. That was one of the responses that I got from Dell CS about my problem.

Paraphrase: I'm sorry you are outside the 21 day refund policy. When I asked how I could get the issues resolved they responded: That is a TS issue. When I said that TS cannot resolve the problem CS responded: Sell the system on EBay.

I'm sure it would be the same for any other Dell Lemon.

I am so frustrated. I did get a hold of a supervisor at Dell they will put the warranty in my name but it will take two weeks!!!

I can't do anything with the wireless card because the cd drive will not work and I don't find a wireless card in device manager...............when I bought an external wireless device ......I couldn't use it because the CD DRIVE WON'T WORK UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

When in device manager it says it is fine but there is an issue with dvd drive that will not update to a new driver

I disabled the dvd drive thinking there might be a conflict with that ,still the cd drive says it is operating properly but I can't run a cd I get I/O device error warning ugggggggggggggggggggggggggg

My poor child has been waiting a year for warhammer and a year for this computer now he can't use it !!!!!!!!!!!!

I keep thinking it's simple but I can't seem to occomplish it

Is this an install problem when you have that disc and others? Is this XP pro or what OS. I had 2 XPS630i's, both with problems that sound familiar to yours. I would need more system specs to offer any info on what I found with mine though. Take a breath and give us what we need to offer any relevant help. I do know your pain.

Hello Prudence13045, I don't want to cause you further frustration, but you should NEVER purchase a computer system from eBay. I know, there are some reputable sellers on eBay, but many are not, and on a computer system, you are taking additional risk.

Now having said that, you have the system, that apparently does not work as it should.

In order to receive assistance here, you need to provide the model number and the specifications of you particular system. Since each model number has different components, knowing what you have is critical.

Some generic advise would be to uninstall, not disable, the device with the error within the Device Manager, reboot, and see if the OS will find it and install the proper drivers.

This works many times, if the device itself is not faulty.

Also, does the CD\DVD spin up when you insert a CD\DVD? The cable/s may have become disconnected in transit.

I have had several Dell CD\DVD drives in customer systems, become defective after a short while of use.

Most Dell systems don't come with a wireless device, but rather Bluetooth for keyboards and mouse operation. Wireless is sometimes added by Dell at customer request. Your system may not have one.

If all else fails, you can simply buy another CD\DVD drive and replace the one already installed, for less than $50.00 as I have done for my customers.

I know, this should not have to be done on a system that is supposed to be in "Warranty".

But if you want to make your son and yourself happy, this may be the quickest way, if indeed the device is defective.

In order to be of any help, we need to know about the model and configuration.

Dell has some CD\DVD drive firmware updates that could solve your issue if your drive is one that has firmware updates. We need more information. Do not list your service tag here, but as others mentioned, do a search at Dell and look for any information for your system and keep us posted.

Hope this helps.

Thanks prudence13045, for the update.

Can we assume that your system is working as it should and your son can play his game?

That may be the best lesson learned here. I used eBay a great deal, until I realized that about half the time I purchased an item, it was not as advertised or defective when I finally received it.

It was a terrible hassle to try to get the item that was advertised in working condition, so I quit using eBay altogether. My complaints to eBay went ignored and I was constantly receiving emails from scammers trying to get me to provide information that they could use to scam me.

While there are some legetimate sellers on eBay, there are far too many using eBay for dishonest purposes and eBay does not seem to care since it seems to be all about the money eBay rakes in, and not customer security.

Glad to hear you resolved your issue personally, because when it is all said and done, you, the customer will need to take care of your support yourself. In Dell's early years, they had support unequaled by anyone, but in recent years, their support has all but vanished and as you have noted, Dell doesn't seem to want to help with support either. Another lesson learned.

It was a lesson learned ! I will not buy anything from ebay again. He did say in his description that iw as all sold as is and that should have tipped me off lol

He is able to play his game and he is happy happy, I am actually quite proud of myself for putting them in.

However I am not so sure it wasn't a power source problem as I think back on it.

Everytime I plugged one specific power source into either the cd or the dvd drive that one showed errors. There is no way I could have contended with that problem however !

I am just glad he can play his game.

I am so glad I decided to join this forum, It sure looks like it could be the place to go for any more help. Everyone was so great!

I did finally speak to a supervisor at Dell support.

She fixed it so ownership can be turned over in my name . The transfer will take at least two weeks though! So I had to do this by myself. I am going to call and see if I can provide receipts for the things I bought and see if I can get reimbursement, I am thinking NO LOL

THANKS AGAIN!:smileywink:

Thanks for the update.

Getting Dell to reimburse you will be all but impossible.

You mentioned that  one of the power source cables seems not to be working.

That may very well be a power supply issue, and after Dell transfers the warranty to you,

I would be in touch with Dell in an effort to get this power supply replaced by Dell.

This is not something I would recommend you attempting, although you probably could do it.

Hope this helps.

Thank you I intended to speak to them about it.

It isn't really necessary right now for him to use it but I would like both the cd drive and dvd drive eworking
