Memory Read/write failure

I get this error during start up and that its decreasing memory, When the machine hast booted I cannot access it. I have tried to take out and put the ram modules in again without any luck. Also tried to just put in one pair of ram modules without any luck.

Do I need to buy new modules or could it also be the slots that are bad?

Its really annoying since I cannot acces mail or anything. Pls help

I have a Dimension 8100 1,4Ghz with 384 MB RAM

Thanks in advance

I have tried all possible combinations with no luck. If it's the sockets, can they be switched?

If you have four memory modules, remove one pair and put the continuity RIMMs back in. Then try the other pair - and alternate slots, until you determine whether it's the module(s) or the sockets that are bad.

No; if the sockets have gone bad you'll need to replace the mainboard.

Try changing the CMOS battery and clearing the CMOS.

If that doesn't work, mount the drive in a working system as a slave so you can copy your data.
