Part number needed
I have searched the boards. I am sure the part number is out there somewhere.
I have an XPS 420. I have added an x-fi xtremegamer card. I want to hook up the front panel headphone jack to the card.
Does anyone know the Dell part number for this cable ? I know the configuration of the pins on the audio card are two rows of 5.
Any help will be greatly appreciated !
Also any instructions for doing this ??
first you need to look at the sound card and see if it even has the connector to hook the cable to..
It will either be a 10 pin inline connector on the top edge of the card or a dual 5 pin connector on the back end of the card...
Not all the retail versions have this connector. There should be a cable that presently is attached to the motherboard that provides this function if the motherbord connector matches the sound card you should be able to just attach that to the sound card..
The sound card does have the connector. It is ten pin, Two rows of 5. I opened the case and found a red round cable running from the front panel to the mother board. It appears to be ten pin. - BUT this cable is marked 1394 and where it attaches to the motherboard says 1394. Is this the correct cable to attach to the sound card ? Thanks for your help. I do appreciate it.

NJ062 is the part number for the cable X-Fi Xtreme Music. I'm not sure if it's the same for the Xtreme Audio.CALLMENUJAK

1394 is the firewirelooking at the pix of your front I/O panel here

Item #1 is the front audo connector. Trace this cable out and see where it connects to the motherboard. That cable is the one to interface the motherboard sound to the front panel.
Thanks much everyone - and I will check out the diagram and open the computer this weekend sometime. Maybe I will find my answer. :)
