A nasty virus really screwed up my system ( Thats the only thing I can think of). System was extreemely erratic. I decided to format the hard drive and do a clean (re)install of windows ME. Installation DID NOT go easily. Dell system disk did not auto run. Finally got to do the install through DOS. After completing this not so clean reinstallation of freekin Windows ME, I keep getting a "New Hardware found" dialog box looking for a PCI Controller Driver to be installed. I have tried everything I can think of. Looked at the installation disk for the modem, drivers disk, etc. Particulars are;
Dimention 4100.
256M Ram.
3 com controller modem.
SBLive Sound.
2nd hard drive (for back up)
floppy
cd Rom
2nd cd rom burner(currently disconnected)

Can't get the sound card to find the windows drivers, even though I watch them install each time, so the sound card doesn't work. System doesn't recognize the modem either, so it isn't functioning
Device Manager shows driver issues with the pci serial controller until the sound card was installed. Now it shows driver problems with the sound card.
I'm just about ready to shoot this thing and buy a Mac.
Should I scrap this attempt and start over with formatting the hard drive and (re)install ME again?
Is the PCI serial controller driver part of the windows package? If not, where do I get the driver? Why is it not part of the Dell reinstallation package?
Help Please!!??!!
