remote control

does the xps 9000 comes with a remote control?

According to the specs ...."Cinematic Experience
With an optional Blu-ray Disc™ drive and integrated 7.1 audio, the theater comes to you. Expand your screen by connecting to an external monitor or TV using the HDMI port. Then, sit back and relax — the Dell Studio XPS 9000 has a built-in infrared receiver so you can control your media center with a remote control."

Just received my XPS 9000 with blue ray, but no remote control included. I called tech support but said it only comes if you ordered the TV tuner.

I have an XPS M1530 laptop , no tv tuner but it has a remote control.

Thanks...

    Hi Cee906,

As far as I know, unless you have a TV tuner, there is nothing to control on the PC. I have a TV tuner in my XPS 8100 and the remote control is only used to control how to watch TV. I actually don't use it, since it's easier to use my STB remote.

The remote control that came with my tv tuner can control Windows Media Center to play videos, music, pictures slide shows, Internet TV as well as the tv tuner. But I agree that it's not that useful. Most users are sitting in front of a desktop, not across the room. It might be helpful if the computer is connected to a tv.

And --as I just found out--you can turn the computer off, control the volume and probably other things I haven't used yet.

The C.F. (Coolness Factor) is high for being able to say- " yeah, my computer has a remote control" but in the real world the STB remote and your mouse are MUCH more useful! Unless it is a dedicated media system.
