Should I flash my bios?
Hi all....I have a dimension 8200. I do not have the most current bios update....which is the Nov. 2002 one. I have upgraded my memory, added another hard drive, changed sound cards and I have all current windows updates.....and now I'm going to install a Sony DVD Writer, so opinions needed if updating the bios is something that I need to consider in relation to the new component?
Thanks in advance!

In doing a quick review of the history of the various BIOS versions for the 8200 model I see nothing related in those versions that you would need for the installation of the new CD drive. The drive should work fine with your present BIOS version.
Thanks Majestic that is the answer I was looking for.:womanvery-happy: ......and pardon me for calling you by the wrong name Ceri.......I stand corrected. However I don't feel that you responded to my question because I was asking about a specific component, not just a generalization of it's usually not a good idea to flash the bios if it ain't broke. I was wondering if there was a specific reason that I needed to, before I install the new DVD,, but thanks for your effort any way and again, I'm sorry I mistakenly called you the wrong name.

Hi,
Unless you need to update the BIOS to resolve a specific problem or allow a specifc device / feature to be installed, then I would recommend against it.
There is simply no need to update the BIOS unless it is required for this.
There is also the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it factor"
