Startup Read/Write Error

Hello, I have been having this problem for about 2 weeks now.  I start my computer up and get error message saying:
memory write/read failure at 1FFF01C0 read FF11FF10 expecting FF10FF10
memory address line failure at 1FFF0000 read FF10FF10 expecting 00000000
strike F1 key to continue, F2 to run setup utility

If i press F1:it goes to another screen saying
windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
systems32/drivers/pci.sys     or   /apnp.sys     or    /ntfs.sys
you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup cd-rom select "r" at the first screen to start repair              {i tried that and it didnt work}

But, somtimes when i get the first error message about write/read, sometimes it will say
decreasing available memory the amount of system memory has changed
strike F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility

If i press F1 when it says that, it will run fine and go to Windows, but- run slower than normal

Ok, now, i have already re-formatted my hardrive hoping it would fix this, but unfortunatly it has not, i still get the same messages at startup, but now, my computer seems to run even slower :(

I have come to the conclusion that maybe one of my (2) 256 mb stick of ram might be bad?

if anyone can help me, i would greatly appreciate it, thanks alot, in advanced

Bodom357,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

What system do you have that is getting this error? You will need to run a diagnostics test on the system to determine if the memory is defective. Once you find run the diagnostics on the memory and it is defective you can then contact Dell and have it replaced if you are still within the warranty period.

i have a inspiron 4150.  It's not in warrenty anymore, but i know now for sure that only 1 of the memory sticks are working now, (i used run, dxdiag) and it said memory is 256.  I have tried using those memory tests before, i cant figure out how to make a bootable cd-rom in a iso image they are talking about, and i dont have a floppy drive. Maybe its possible to use a flash drive? I dont know what to do and my computer is ultra slow with only 256 ram.  Any advise, is it hard to open up a laptop to get to the ram? I used to work at dell and built computers, but have no knowledge on laptops.
thanks for anyones help

Bodom357, click here for information from your model's on-line User Guide on how to replace the memory modules.  From the information given it looks like a pretty straight forward job that the average user can perform.

According to your model's User Guide the Dell Diagnostics are contained on a hidden partition on your hard drive.  Click here for information on how to use the diagnostics.
