Unknown PCI device

I just installed Windows XP Pro on my Dell Dimension 9150. Now when I enter the Device Manager it lists an unknown PCI Device in the Other Devices. I've gone to the drivers and downloads section of this website and downloaded and installed, what I believe to be all the drivers I need, but I still have this "unknown PCI device".

How can I determine what this device is so that I can download the correct driver for it?

Thanks,
Shai1

Did you also install the chipset driver?  That driver is often forgotten and it needs to be the first driver installed so the system can correctly identify the other hardware components so that their drivers can be installed.

i just installed windows and then installed all unknown devices from the driver cd i made. but, as i told, no driver there fits this pci device!

Blazey, click here  for the latest chipset driver from the Dell File Library for your model and Windows XP.  The installation instructions are listed on the file's download page.

Blazey, you can click here  for the latest BIOS version for your model and that version is A03.  Just download the BIOS update to a folder and run the file from there to upgrade the BIOS.  Prior to running the file it's a good idea to shut down all unneeded applications running in the background and to disconnect all unneeded USB devices.  This will lessen the chance of the system hanging during the reboot phase of the update.

You can click here for all the latest drivers and files Dell has available for your model and Windows XP.   If the tech support person had took the time to look up your Service Tag number then he or she would have had an idea as to what hardware was shipped on your system from the factory.  From that list they could have then recommended the right drivers to download or use.   A case of sloppy tech support I guess.

"device from dell corp".....  you could be right and the device maybe very well be a integrated hardware item.  If so then make sure the drivers are installed for the integrated audio and integrated NIC.

im sorry, but it doesnt help. i reinstalled the os and after windows was ready i installed the chip driver first. still unknown pci device. i have no other hardware pluged besides the graphic-card which is shown correctly in hardware manager.
maybe i could update bios. the hotline told me to try this. so where can i get the bios for my dimension 9150? its not downloadable on the site u showed me. do u have a clue?

this problem seems to be familiar as i saw a few threads with the same problem.
the dell support hotline couldnt help. they send the os cd now. but thats not really what i want cause i wont have xp pro then.

this is a bit curious to me, to be honest. how come dell doesnt know what drivers customers have to install on their mashine and why arent the drivers downloadable?

the unknown device identifier tells that it is a "device from dell corp" !! so it must be some device dell built in......and they dont know how to install/which driver solves that.

cheers

ok, found the bios, sorry.

but, guess what, it doesnt help. i flashed bios a03 with the brand new and unbelieveable bios a03 :)

i guess theres no other way then sending back the mashine. it cost me some days now and theres no solution.
many costs for dell now....remind that it is probably only a 300kb file that would solve the problem. but, shipping it from germany to the service point somewhere is a real good way to solve it, isnt it?

It has taken me over a week of trawling through various drivers, downloads, forums, etc.  Everyone points to the Chipset drivers.

I am pleased to say this one has resolved my issue.  I use a notebook Inspiron 1300.

Just downloaded my audio driver.

FANTASTIC !!!!
