UPS SHUTDOWN

I have a Dell 2400 desk top Pent 4 2.20GHz 512Ram xp home edition. The problem is for the past few months it will intermittenly shut down. The monitor will show (dups power saving mode)and goes into hibernation and cannot bring it back. Must shut computer down and wait a while before it can be restarted. Will sometimes shut down repeatedly. Other times it may stay on for several days. Tech help unable to correct the problem. Thank you for any help

I run all power saving options on never (on all my desktops). This was suggested by Dell and several long time members of the forum.

The advice was those options were developed for portables and can give unpredictable results on desktops.

If this is not your current mode of operation, it might be worth a try and see if it has any impact on your problem.

If there are any power saving options controlled by the BIOS I would take the same approach with them. Note any changes to the BIOS so you can reapply them, if required.

This can be caused by overheating or bad memory. Run Dell diagnostics or call Dell again and get a better tech.
