Windows8.1 boot up
After getting to the recovery/start up options, I've tried every number. The screen goes black.What other way can I get to that safe mode black screen boot up options??? Thanx for your response. BC

F12 a few times at startup will get you to the Dell diagnostics. Run an extended test on the hard drive.
If you require further information, post the results of the diagnostic tests above along with the complete model information (i.e., Inspiron 660, etc.).
