Go to SolutionXPS 8300 Building problems
A friend gave me most of the parts from his XPS 8300, excluding a processor, hard drive and dvd drive. He included a Radeon 7450 card, and 8GB of RAM sticks. I bought an Intel Pentium G2120 Ivy Bridge 3.1 GHz LGA1155 Dual Core processor. I have installed everything into the case, and to the best of my knowledge all the power cords are plugged in properly. I turned on the computer and all the fans started running and the disk drives were powering up, but the USB Mouse, Keyboard, and VGA Monitor aren't putting out any signal. I have a decent knowledge of computer workings, but this is the first time I have built a computer relatively from scratch. Any suggestions on something I might have missed would be appreciated.

You cannot install an incompatible processor on the motherboard. What model is the MB? Here is the list of compatible motherboards from Intel: processormatch.intel.com/.../SearchResult.aspx

My friend found the processor for me, he knew that it was only compatible with G2120. I am confirming with him the motherboards exact name, but it was the same motherboard that came with the xps 8300.

That would seem to be the issue, when my friend gets back they are going to research possible BIOS upgrades, but it will be hard without being able to see anything... Thanks.

We never tested the retail Intel Pentium G2120. The XPS 8300 motherboard and Bios are only validated with the following Dell OEM (original equipment manufacturer) CPUs:

Did you install all the drivers in the correct order after installing the new operating system on the new hard drive?
However, Dell may never have come out with a bios update to support Ivy Bridge CPUs on the XPS 8300. The XPS 8300 came out with Sandy Bridge CPUs so my guess is that Ivy Bridge CPUs are not supported and will not work. It does not matter if you have the H67 chipset since it is a Dell OEM product if that is what your friend was looking at to confirm.
