Agree you can upgrade it, but I'm not sure you will notice the improvement in performance unless you are bench-marking and measuring the results.

The 6700K is probably about $300 to $315, and you can sell your 6700 for $200 or so after selling fees and shipping, so for a $100 to $150 upgrade it can work, but again, I'm not sure the slight increase is worth the cost.

My opinion is based on my experience with daily use of a i7 3770 ( stock 3.4Ghz) , and an i7 4790K overclocked to 4.7Ghz

I also have access to and often use an i7 4770 (3.4Ghz), and a 6700K  overclocked to 4.8Ghz

all have similar SSDs ( most are SATA III Samsumg 850s, one is a Micron SATA III SSD)

If you move forward with the upgrade, you might also consider upgrading the CPU cooler. Search for "xps 8900 cryorig H7" and you'll find a post on the forum here with a video.

I upgraded the CPU cooler on two of our XPS 8700s with the i7 4770 CPU, and it was a huge improvement.
