Alienware m15x
Hi, new to forum. hope i am posting in the right one. just a couple of questions, be grateful for any advice/help !
System - i7-720 / GTX260M / 4GB / Bios A08
1) occassionally the laptop will not power on (about 1 in 8 boots). i have to do a hard power drain. once booted, i have to re-set the internet time. has anyone else had this?
2) looking to upgrade the GPU - any recommendations on the best upgrade (which won't cook the system)
3) anyone had experience with this GPU - Nvidia quadro fx3800M ? i have seen it on offer stating that its better than the 280M & 285M
4) will the Mx15 take 1600mhz DDR3 RAM?
thanks in advance for any advice !

Hi Dno101,
I recommend you to remove the battery and disconnect the adapter, press and hold the power button for few seconds and release to drain the flea power .Now put back the battery and connect the adapter and power on the computer and check.
You may also check by connecting a known good adapter.
For graphic card upgrade, Alienware 15X ships with Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M and Nvidia GeForce GT 240M.
Alienware M15x is now available with ATI Radeon HD 5850 / ATI Radeon HD 5730 Graphics card.
I am afraid Nvidia Quadro FX 3800M is not tested on this computer. You may try upgrading the Graphic card to Nvidia Quadro FX 3800M by taking the computer toa local store and try changing the graphic card.
Alienware 15X is compatible with 1066 MHz and 1333 MHz DDR3. Below table has memory configurations for Alienware 15X:
Memory module connectors
Two user-accessible SO-DIMM sockets
Memory module capacities
1 GB, 2 GB, and 4 GB modules
Memory type
1066 MHz and 1333 MHz DDR3
Minimum memory
2 GB
Maximum memory
8 GB
Please reply for further questions.

thanks for the quick reply Rajesh. the only way i can get it to power on is to remove the battery and power drain as you suggest. the time setting then defaults back to 2009 which was when i bought it. i was wondering if anyone had a permanent fix for this problem.
so if i put 1600mhz in it, i presume it will just clock back to 1333mhz? was hoping there might have been a bios fix.
will check out them GPUs
thanks again.

My M15 R1 uses 1600Mhz ram when I overclock it just fine. You should update the bios to the latest before trying this. In overclocked mode 1333mhz ram does not post.
