Bluetooth help needed! :(

Hi all, I'm new here but not new to Dell and the many problems that seem to accompany their systems.  Once you get them fixed great computers but in the meantime you pull your hair out!  lol
I have an Inspiron 1520 notebook that was reformatted to have XP Pro.  I've fixed almost all issues thanks to the posts here but I cannot get it to allow me to print via bluetooth.  I have the 355 bluetooth and while it recognizes my printer ( HP photosmart 8450) it won't connect saying it's not a compatable service.  When I look in the bluetooth manage it shows the only bluetooth printer options are for other bluetooth devices to access a printer directly connected to my computer! Is there a driver or update that will allow my computer to connect to my printer via bluetooth or did I wate my money buying the adapter to print wirelessly?  Thanks for any help you can give! :D

Thanks for the help but I've been to that link and it doesnt help.  It doesn't seem to be a problem with the printer as much as an option Dell BLuetooth manager won't allow for some reason.  The manager is only showing a printer can be hooked up for other bluetooth devices not the main computer.. that one has to be directly connected. :(

Yes I've done all of that. :( When I search for available devices it show the printer but then says the service is not a suported service.  When I check bluetooth manager it shows that only network compuers can use the printer via bluetooth and mine would have to be directly connected.  I only have one comp. I don't have a network.  Should I go back to an older version of bluetooth manager maybe?

did you walk step by step as the hp guide says ? installing the hp driver BEFORE installing the bluetooth and all this stuff ?

did you check the security and visibility settings on the printer /bluetooth section ?

is it visible to everyone or hidden ? do you use  pass key or not?

when you search for available bt devices from your notebook , what do u get ?

Iam pretty sure the bluetooth manager that you have by DELL has nothing more or less than any other bluetooth manager , it's just a tricky installation .

I give up!  Once you go into add a printer the bluetooth port disappears..if you try to add it back it asks you to pick a printer, it shows the correct one, you pick it and click connect to add the port and it says Service Printer is not found on device photosmart 8400.  I've checked and rechecked the bluetooth settings in the printer.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled it and bluetooth manager.  I guess I have to have a wired printer.  Thanks for trying though.  I appreciate it.

when u start the add new printer wizard u have two options :

use the following port

and

create a new port

in the second option you must see "bluetooth printer port "

i can see that and i don't have any printers connected or installed on my computer , so it has nothing to do with the printer , and iam using inspiron 1520 with winxp like you.

Yip, that's exactly it.  The printer has bluetooth capabilities.  I've adjusted those settings to allow it, taken away any passcode you name it and it refuses to work.  I'm at my wits end. :(

Exactly, that's what's there but when you select use bluetooth printer port it brings you into another wizard to set up the bluetooth port and that's where the error comes in. :(

so once that other wizard begins , and it starts searching for bluetooth printers in range , it does find one , right ? but when you click on it and press on connect it brings you an error message saying that the service is not available ?

I had to reinstall the printer.. again and now it works with the cable but trying to install a bluetooth printer port still gives me the same service printer not found in photosmart 8400 error.

Yes i did a clean install when I changed OS.. I was just joking because if I don't joke about it I'll toss the printer out the window soon.  lol  I guess it's just not possible to have a bluetooth link for some reason.. I just am at a loss now.  I've tried everything. I even called HP tech support and they told me the same steps I've tried and what you've suggested.  I give up!

Thanks for trying though. :)
