Blurry graphics, sharp fonts
Hello,
I just bought the Inspiron 6000. It has the 15.4 WS+ Samsung LCD Display. I find on webpages that the font is very clear but the graphics are blurry regardless of what web page I go on. This is when the DPI is on 125% normal (120 DPI) and screen resolution is at 1680 by 1050. When I change the DPI to 96%, the graphics are much clearer but of course the fonts are much tinier. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Native resolution and DPI at 96 is best, and anything else will not work well for many. As the other poster suggested, send it back now, and get the XGA screen or just send it back, period. Your eyes are not the best I believe for that SXGA or even the UXGA screen's.
- Ok, at first it was a matter getting used to the screen. It starting to hurt my eyes after a few days of use.It's unfortunate that I didn't realize the high res issue until I bought it. Yes, I could return it (again) but I feel very disappointed as I alwanted a nicer screen. I wonder if I can return it but get the same spec without the high res LCD? If I get refund, then I would loose my $750 + coupon deal on the laptop. Any ideas? I really the rest of the laptop alot.Anyone tried using a different browser as the article above suggested?I might also mention that the ultilities out there for this type of issues are useless.

- Yes, it's unfortunate. I knew there was a problem with the WUXGA so I went with the WSXGA. I have learnt my lesson and would not go any higher than the WXGA (some have said that even this is too small). Regardless, I am returning the laptop. I have read one post where an individual had the same complaint as us but Dell offered to replace the screen only (not replace the entire laptop). However, someone responded to that post and stated that you have to be careful because some technicians have scratched the screen or the laptop itself (not sure which one). I don't really know anything about the coupon. Good luck!
- Simon,The proper DPI setting is supposed to be 96. But for my LCD, the font is too small and is hard on the eyes. When I received my laptop, Dell had set the DPI to 120 so it is obvious that people have complained about the 96 setting. 120 is a better setting because you will find the font is larger but the problem is that graphics on webpages cannot cope with 120 DPI so whenever I viewed webpages, the graphics were choppy and blurry. When I reduce the DPI back to 96, the graphics look great but the font is too small. I found that the registry fix that has been talked about in this forum works on some webpages but not all.Mike
- Yup, same here and I've done a lot of research and I think I've found the best solution.
I asbsolutely love the high res screen and don't want to go back to the lower res.
If you still have your laptop w/ the high res do the following:
Here's goes:
1) get rid of IE and get the Firefox browser. (www.firefox.com)
2) change your display to 120 dpi so everything is a bit larger on the system level
3) install the Firefox extension to override the default text size and configure a text size that is comfortable for your eyes.

This is great cuz I get the space on the desktop but the larger text size on the web pages AND no more blurry jpegs.
