Booting error 'Checking Media [Fail]'

My laptop came has a mechanical HD.  I want to swap this with a SSD.  When I do this, I get the above message.  I tried replacing my SSD that has Win 7 and when this didn't work, I tried my new SSD without an OS, but the same message keeps coming up.

I prefer to have a laptop with a SSD and all my data is on the SSD that I tried first (which was on my previous laptop).

Please could I get some idea as to how to get the SSD working on the new laptop.

Thanks in advance

Hi Melwyn,

May I know the system model?

Also, does the computer detect the old hard drive?

Check if the hard drive is the first boot device in BIOS. Restart the computer and tap F2 at Dell logo. Under”boot” check if the hard drive is first boot device.

Awaiting your response!

Hi Rajesh

It is a Inspiron 5721.

When I change the hard drives, there are only two options showing up under UEFI Boot, UEFI Onboard LAN IPv6 and IPv4.

The error still shows up.

The SSD is detected and is showing under the main menu.

Please advise.
