constant chkdsk failure
Hi, I have an Inspiron 1520 laptop. Every time I start my computer I am told that my computer need to check drives for consistancy and wants to run chkdsk. If I run the disk check it fails after a few seconds. This happens everytime I run the check. I can cancel the disk check and my computer runs fine but I do not want to have the disk check run every time i start my computer. How to I make disk check work correctly so it will go away?

Most likley, by replacing the hard drive with a new one. To confirm a hardware problem, power on, press F12, load the Dell diagnostics and run an EXTENDED - NOT just a quick - hard drive test.

You need to run chckds /f in order to fix the problem.
You probably need to go to: start, run, type cmd and hit ok- which takes you to a dos window. Assuming you have just one drive, type chkdsk /f and hit enter. It will probably give you a message saying that this needs to be done at the next boot. Accept and type exit and hit enter.
Reboot. I might take a while to fix the problem. You might want to run this a couple of time until you do not get anymore errors. If the error keep coming, you will need to replace the hard drive. Be sure to back up your data now.
If the drive is really bad, you want to have your data.

Thanks. I ran all the tests and discovered it wasn't my hard drive. it was my back up drive that failed. fixed it and everything works fine again.
