I would suggest you to update the BIOS,CHIPSET and Touch pad Driver on the system. Click on the link http://dell.to/1vPRm49, select the Operating System and download the drivers.
Download the BIOS from BIOS section onto the system and install it.
Download the Chipset from Chipset section onto the system and install it.
Download Touch pad Driver from Input Devices onto the system and install it.
Once all the drivers are updated and installed restart the system and check.
I have a similar problem on my Vostro 3550 (about 2 years old), which only started recently. Running Windows 7 Professional. Cursor jumps around while I am typing. I have Norton 360, and did a full virus scan which found nothing.
I am using a Logitec wireless mouse - swapped it with another wireless mouse, but no change.
I do not use the Touchpad (hate it!). Should I still try the suggestion above?
I have swapped the Logitec mouse with a Microsoft mouse, which loaded its driver, and I still have the problem, so it looks like it is not a mouse issue.
Also I do not have the problem on my Desktop running Vista - unbelievable ! ! !
If you have updated the drivers (BIOS,CHIPSET,Touchpad) from the link http://dell.to/1mE32ra as suggested above. I would also suggest you also to try the below steps and check.
Click on Start button.
In the search box type mouse and then press enter.
Click the Pointers tab
Select ‘Use Default’ and With ‘Normal select’ highlighted under Customize
Appears to be a Dell laptop issue ! Switching mice doesn't solve it. Neither does updating BIOS etc., as suggested. Problem only exists on my Windows 7 Dell Laptop.

To use my computer I have had to shut down with programs still open.
I did this one more time when it occurred and it has not done it since. I will let you know if it does it again.

Can we compare platforms on this, to see if we can find common g?
I'm running Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1, on a Dell Vostro 3550, with a Logitec wireless mouse.

It is still doing it, not as long or as often, but still occurring.

Hi Farooq - my computer has been on for 6 hours now and only did it once for a very short time. Your suggestions have helped.
Thanks!
