Latitude E5550 - 15.6" FHD - Core i5 5300U - Intel HD Graphics 5500 - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit / Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit downgrade - 8 GB RAM - 500 GB HDD. Purchased June 2015. Windows 7 Pro was factory installed, with 8.1 media provided but no instructions for upgrading. I booted from USB and cloned the HDD to a 512 GB SSD before completing the windows install.
Screen is FHD 1920x1080 IPS and is very bright and sharp. I haven't tested battery life as I mostly work with charger attached (special power mode ensures battery is not constantly being charged).Disappointingly, the battery is internal and can only be accessed after removing the bottom cover.
I have hearing problems, so my system is silent :-), but the fan is seldom on and the case is cool, probably helped by fitting my SSD.
Windows Experience scores are CPU (7.1), Memory (7.3), Graphics (5.3), Gaming Graphics (6.6), Disk (7.9). The graphics score is a bit low, but I'm not interested in playing games, and I expect this to increase when I add a second 8 GB DIMM (2 slots, 1 free). Some configs have Nvidia graphics though.
Build quality seems decent enough but I'm finding the spacebar missing key strokes. Two other problems I've had are random blue screens and the fingerprint reader not working. Both problems were still present after applying all Dell (BIOS & drivers) & Windows updates.
I've now updated the SSD firmware and that seems to have resolved the BSOD's but it is still early days. The Broadcom Fingerprint Management Application reported a Side-by-Side configuration error when trying to enroll fingerprints, and there were no fixes or discussions of this on the Dell support pages. However, it was easily resolved by installing the Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable x64 package downloaded from Microsoft.
