Dell Studio 1558 - Display issues
Seem to be having lots of issues just now with my Studio 1558 running Windows 7 (64bit)
- Laptop appears to boots up fine but screen is black. So unusable.
- Connecting the laptop to a monitor does bring up a screen but the system BSOD during the boot up
- Can then get into the system using Safe Mode but the screen is pixelated with dotted vertical lines; like braille.
Graphics card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD5470. Device Manager is suggesting drivers are upto date (8.680.0.0)
Additional information about the BSOD problem:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID: 2057
BCCode: 116
BCP1: FFFFFA80071434E0

BCP4: 0000000000000002
OS Version: 6_1_7601

Product: 768_1
Have also seen some Video Hardware Errors too.

Hi Dale21 ,
Regret the inconvenience caused !
I would suggest you to initiate LCD BIST (Built in self test )where in the system displays solid colors on the screen if the screen is working fine .To initiate the LCD BIST I would ask you to restart the system with the D key pressed .
You have also mentioned that the display is seen on external monitor with a BSOD ,can you confirm if the display was pixalated on this external screen and also provide the complete stop code of BCCode:116 which indicates video driver failure error. To investigate more about the failure seen I would ask you to provide the service tag of the system with the OS installed information (sent via private message ) .
Awaiting your response !
Kindest Regards ,

Hi,
I get no picture at all when I try and use the laptop without a monitor. When I use the monitor, the picture is heavily pixelated.
OS is Windows 7 Home Edition
The tag of the system is:
3144324925
(1G01SN1)
I have attached some recent pictures. The levels of 'pixelation' seems to vary. Last time I booted the machine up I could just about see the screen (see second picture). But today I booted up the machine and the pixilation was much worse (all other pictures).
Thanks
Scott

This is indicative of a bad video chip -- which in turn means a replacement mainboard (the age of the system may make a new system a better idea than putting a few hundred dollars into a mainboard replacement).

Hi @Dale21 ,
As we see in the pictures the display is distorted even with the external screen .It shows that its a case of faulty video card which is integrated on the system board .
Now this system's warranty has expired so we can assist you with a quotation for the system board or alternatively you may purchase the part from a local Dell authorised reseller.
Kindest Regards ,

The exact part number is on the board you have, usually near the memory sockets.
For the 5470 board,
< >
that's one of them.
