display assembly data cable?
I think the backlight on my Inspiron 1100 is bad (screen is dark except a few seconds during boot up and when cycling through Fn+F8), and I want to replace the display assembly with a used one from ebay. The seller says it is complete except for "data cable not included". This is my first time doing this and don't know what data cable he means. Could it be the display-feed flex cable? I should be able to use the one from my existing display, right?

Thanks ejn63. Where would the make & model # be on my display?
I have been using a vga monitor for a few months. Just curious -- if I were to remove the display and not replace it would the computer still work?

Most likely yes, that's what it means. If you have the same screen, you should be able to reuse your cable - however, if the screen is different, you may not be able to do that - the cables may be different.
