a. Install Dell Notebook System Software (click the + sign next to System Utilities). Restart.
b. Next install the Intel Mobile Chipset driver (click the + sign next to Chipset). Restart.
c. Finally install the Sigmatel audio driver (click the + sign next to Audio) and other drivers.
Get these from D600 XP drivers. There is a dropbox to change operating system if the one you installed is not XP, but win2000 is the only other OS supported.

PS please mention OS whenever starting a new thread.
There is a utility that scans the system and can find the tag and the current configuration. When you know the component names its easier to figure out which drivers to use.
If it turns out there is a TS-L462C Cd rom/burner, I advise that you do not use the firmware DE07 because it is defective and can cause noise when playing audio.
For O2Micro SmartCardBus_Reader click the + sign next to 'chipset'.
'Pci modem' is probably Conexant D480 under 'communication'.
The Video Controller must be the ATI driver under 'video'.
Jim
edit: there is a Quickset utility under 'applications' that you need for the Fn keys for volume and screen brightness to work and some other functions.
Sorry for the delay. I'm out of ideas anyway, except wondering if the modem is necessary. If not I wouldn't worry about its driver. The Conexant had 3 or 4 items to be downloaded. I don't know anything about their order or importance. The 'General Hardware' board might be more helpful -- see the Navigation links on the left of this page.

dogface,
The support site can tell you the components if you know the service tag number on the bottom of the computer.
System Information
There is a utility that scans the system and can find the tag and the current configuration. When you know the component names its easier to figure out which drivers to use.

Thanks Jim,
That helped, now there are only 2 problems:
Network Controller (I installed Intel PROSet Wireless but there is still a driver problem)
PCI Modem (I installed the Conexant D480 driver but didn't work.)
thanks,
dogface
