Error Loading Operating System

I've lost the Floppy Drive for a Lattitude CPI D266XT.

1. Where can I buy a used one? ebay?

2. Can I make a bootable CD.

Had a virus so wiped out my Harddrive. Fdisked it... I changed the bios to boot from CD, with full version of Win 95, Win Me and Win Xp..and the following message comes up  "error loading operating system". what can I do if I only have a CD?

please email vbstech@sympatico.ca or reply here

Strange you are getting that error message from the W-XP CD. It does not need a Boot Disk or CDR  as it is selfbooting. I would recommend you go back to Fdisk and delete the partitions and start with a bare drive. The W-XP CD will partition and format the drive during setup to your selections.

If you have access to a PC with a CDRW and Floppy Drive which is running Nero or Roxio/Adaptec burner software, you can make a Boot Image/Emulation CDR. You will need a W98 Boot Disk to use as a source; if the PC has W98 on it, you go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/ Startup Disk Tab;OR this link  www.bootdisk.com  for a download. Once you have the boot disk made, leave it in the floppy drive,  and on Roxio, open EZ CD Creator,  click Make Data CD/Untitled Data CD Project/File/New CD Project/Bootable CD. Use the Floppy Disk Emulation(1.44mb) choice, put  a Blank CDR in the CDRW, and click OK. That CDR will effectively make an A: Drive out of your laptop's CD Drive, and you will have all the DOS Tools for your use, just as if you were using the Floppy and boot diskette. It will also boot the CDROM for OS installation with non-selfbooting CDs like retail W98SE, but you do not need it with W2k or W-XP CDs, as they are selfbooting. I hope this helps you in your efforts.
Oh yes, Ebay has many Floppies for the CP series(from the CP thru the CPxJ) and they are all compatible with yours
