Help! My video drivers are missing!

Hello, I have an Inspiron E1505 and I have no idea what happened to my video drivers but now I can't close my laptop and open it without having to restart and I can't play the games I used to.. Can someone please help? I'm not really good with computers, by the way.:emotion-6:

I use an app called DriverMax to identify what device drivers are needed when I do reinstalls on systems that have no documentation. You have a whole new set of drivers to install under Vista because the drivers you used for all your hardware in Windows XP aren't compatible with Vista. The Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset driver your friend's program found is for the motherboard. If that one were for video it would've been identified as Intel 945GM Graphics Controller. What you need to do with the recovered file is reinstall it but do so after you download and install the Dell Notebook System Software from here.

Click on the link  at the bottom and select .....

Drivers & Downloads
I'm looking for drivers and downloads.

Enter your Service tag and download the video card from Dell.

It will be the correct version, save it to your desktop. Close any

open windows, double click the video driver and follow the

prompts. ~Cindy~

Oh, n evermind I see it. I don't see how I missed it!

But, it says "There are no files to download. Please go to Drivers and Downloads to select file(s)."

I'm confused now; Didn't I just download a file/driver?

Arkvoodle,
You'll need to determine what video adapter is in your computer before anyone can point you to the specific driver for it. The Inspiron E1505 can have either Intel integrated video or a card made by ATI or nVidia. To find out which one you have you need to go to Device Manager and expand the Display adapters branch.

Umm, that whole section has been deleted, but in the other devices section it shows:

Video Controller

Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

If it helps any, I have something called NVIDIA PhysX on my control Panel...

Please respond ASAP.

In that case you probably have the nVidia GeForce Go 7300. You didn't post what version of Windows you're running so here's a link to the Vista compatible driver and here's a link to the one for XP.

I received the same error message as before.:emotion-6:

My version is Windows XP, Media Center Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3.

Also, a window titled Found New Hardware Wizard pops up every time I start up my laptop and its trying to install the drives, but at the end of the wizard, it says, "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software. It tries to install the two drivers I mentioned before.

Don't know why you're getting an error. I verified both of the links work both before and immediately after submitting my last post (and again just now). There's nothing wrong with them. The Found New Hardware wizard dialog box that pops up is indicating Windows knows there's a video card in the computer but doesn't have any drivers for it. That's what you're trying to download so you can reinstall it.

Ok, since I was given the opportunity, I upgraded to Windows Vista Business Version 32-Bit OS. I tried the NvIdIA driver download again, and it actually started to download. Too bad, because when I upgraded, it deleted all of the previous files. So now that I don't get that error message, can you tell me which video driver to download? I can't seem to tell if its ATI or NVIDIA.. Thanks for the help so far, by the way.

Changing the OS doesn't change the hardware that's in the system so again, based on you previously posting that you have/had nVidia PhysX listed in Control Panel you must have the nVidia card. The links in my other post are both for that card and the one you need to use is the first link since it leads to the driver for Vista.

Do you not have the original CD's that came with your computers? If so, You have a Blue CD that's labeled Drivers & Downloads. Install that CD and it will find what hardware you have and determine which driver you will need. You can install the driver from there. I'm not sure why you're getting that error message when you're downloading the file from Dell's website.
