HELP!! problems with grapfics in game?
Hallo
I have a serius problem
For about 1 year ago i bought a gaming laptop (XPS M1730) with 2 go 8700M gt nvidia card, problem is that my laptop cant play?
No matter what game I try, it lag´s or freezes up?
I got my cards swifted last month so it cant be a hardware problem.
I have tried to download the latest driver (175,32) and that driver makes the games run a bit better, but when I reboot Windows Vista wont start up?!
It shows the Dell logo and I chose normal start up and then the screen goes blank and nothing happens??
Hope someone have some experinces with it and have an idea what to do
Someone PLZ help me !! thx.

if I were you I would reinstall Windows and actually go to Windows XP Pro... Vista is really slow, and uses a lot of system resources. maybe giving you problems with the Memory when executing a higth end game.
try going to Windows XP and I guess all will be better. at this time you may have problems with ur windows register.

well, that is true... look at this.. I think this information may be good.. research if your Video card supports "hardware transformation and linghthing" and that it is enabled. several games requiere this to properly run on your computer.
if your computer does not have this support, and the games you are triing to play require of this, then I am affraid you will not be able to play them in your computer. whcih honestly I dont think that is the case on your laptop, that video card shall be able to support that with no problem. just investigate if it is enabled. that is a feature.

Hey Dg1987 and Fishingman1.
Thank you for your replies.
Dg1987:
Year that I think is a good idea; problem is that I do not have a registrations-key because my home premium vista can’t be downgraded :( But it’s a good idea, I just not gonna spend more money on a Laptop, I think it should work when Dell have build it this way for me.. But a good emergency solution.
The second thing you say, is that I should investigate if my GFX card´s supports "hardware transformation and linghthing"But if it supports it, where can I see if it´s enable??
Thank you for your help!
Fishingman1:
Year exactly! I hear the Vista start up sound the screen just goes blank. Plz explain what you think I should do into many details because I am not an expert :( sorry But I think it could be a solution! :)
Thank you for your help!
I am gonna try it out today so I hope you can write the details within :) thx.

By the way Fishingman1!!
You have the exact same systems configuretions
2,4 ghz CPU,
2048 ram memory
8700 gt´s (SLI) 512 GDDR3 memory
200 GB 7200 rpm HDD.
And you say that you play games with no problems? with drivers and setup are you using :) ?
I am desparate to get it to work :)
Thank you

1st to get the laptop booting on battery: click the start button then in the search bar type msconfig and click on that. When that window opens click on the boot tab at the top. Then where it says boot options check "No GUI Boot"
I am using the latest video driver from the nVidia site (175.32) and the Physx driver from there. I play Crysis on low setting because my processor is too slow to run it on high but it runs without problems for hours.
Check your video card and cpu temps to see if they are getting too hot. That might be the reason for the slow down in frames. You can use a program like Everest to check that.

Hey again.
Okay i have made the config and it seemes to work :) so far..
thank you!
But i still lag a little in crysis ;/ I am running it on 1024 * 768, AA off, and medium with Sli enable.
Does it lag because of Sli? because I cant see if Crysis suports Sli, and it is not possible to enable it in Crysis GFX options?
And any idea what I can do to get my laptop to stop lagging permanently?
Thx for you help.

Nick,
Have a look at this thread to help you resolve your issues with Crysis using 8700M GT card. The driver reference is old so I would recommend using the latest version 175.32. I used this setup on my system with 8700M GT card and 2.2GHz CPU.

You should be able to play this game at 1280X1024 with the settings I noted and get 30-40fps.
Important things to remember:
1) Make sure you have applied the latest Crysis patch.
2) All MS hotfixxes related to Sli should be applied
3) Run the game under DirectX9
4) Don't have CPU intensive programs running in the background- Like temp monitoring programs

Hey
That sounds like a good idea.
But I am already using the 175,32 patch and Crysis is fully opdated with the newest 1.2.1 patch.
But then you are saing that I should start it up in DX9 insted of DX10 ? how do I do that?

Look at the screen capture in #3 of the link I posted. It shows how to start Crysis in DX9. Also, in Crysis use the settings in shown in #4 2nd screen shot
Let us know how it works for you, Good luck

No I didn't have the problem, someone else did and I gave them the solution.
You can go to www.nhancer.com and download the program and install it. It has a manual to explain the setup and settings. If you not comfortable installing it than leave that step out and see how your performance is running under DX9 and setting the game settings as they are in the screen cap.
With newer video card drivers you may be good.

Hey, sorry I read the thread wrong.
So you are saing that if I run Crysis in DX9 (SLI enable) it should run better? and is the 175,32 driver okay to use?
problem is also that crysis somehow didnt maked a sreen shortcut so i cant start i up i DX9 mode?
and if I choose to get the nhanser program, should it work on my laptop ?
thx for your help!

Quite frankly, the best way to find out the answers to your questions, is to try them.
That's not a "get-out" clause :D
I've said it, because... despite maybe having similar hardware in them... each laptop is undoubtedly very different, due to the various drivers we have installed, the settings we use (both desktop and in-game), and the additional software/programs we have installed on the laptop - each of which can have different effects on the both the system, and in games.
But here's some quick suggestions anyway:
Re the drivers: Just try them. If they don't help/make any difference, uninstall them, and reinstall the newest ones again - or try a different set still.
Re the missing shortcut: It's very easy to create your own shortcut for any program or game which doesn't automatically create one on the desktop.
Just go into the program/game folder... look for the program/game EXE file, create a shortcut, and cut/paste it to the desktop.
Regarding nHancer: It will run perfectly well... whatever laptop/system you choose to install/run it on. It's a very flexible/forgiving program ;)
