How do I replace Inspiron E1405 trackpad?
Hi everyone! I am new here, but it looks like a good community. My wife has a Dell Inspiron E1405. A couple years ago, the left mouse button stopped working and Dell replaced the trackpad under warranty. Two weeks ago the left button collapsed again, seems like the same microswitch failure as the original failure. The laptop is no longer under warranty, so I bought a trackpad assembly from an Ebay auction. However, I can't seem to find any instructions for replacing the trackpad. Can anyone point me to a guide that walks me through laptop disassembly and trackpad replacement? Thanks!

Thank you ejn63! Posts like yours are what make the Internet an amazing resource. I searched on trackpad and touchpad, but not palmrest.

For reasons only Dell can explain, the Service Manual doesn't appear at the Dell link anymore, but you can find it here: http://www.dolcetto.org.uk/downloads/Equipment%20Info/Computers/Dell%20640m/Service%20Manual%20Files/index.htm
