Insprion E1705 Beeping On Charge

Hello All-

I've noticed when I charge my E1705 I hear a very low "beeping" sound. This is not a System beep, it's a very quiet non-OS sound. It only occurs when the laptop is turned off and plugged in for recharging. I noticed it occurs when the battery reaches approx. 90% capacity. Any ideas what this beeping sound is? Is there a way to turn if off?

Thank you in advance-
-Roxcoe

I use to think it was something to do with the battery reaching full-charge, however, last night and today I've left it plugged in while turned off and it didn't beep. At this point I'm not really sure what it is...however when it does beep, it stops once I unplug it...so it has to have something to do with the battery charging.

I'm going to unplug the machine and let the battery drain down and then plug it in again while turned off and see what happens...let me know if you figure anything out.

Same problem here with Insprion 9400. Beeping occurs only when turned on and charging. The beep frequency slows as the charge approaches 100%.

I am experiencing the same problem.  Doesn't Dell monitor these forums?  I don't see a Dell response in this thread...  Anyway here's what I've found:
  • Beeping/squeal only occurs when battery is charging.
  • Removing the battery while the laptop is plugged in stops the sound.
  • Unplugging and running on battery stops the sound.
  • Squeal is faster when battery charge is lower, and slows down/stops when battery reaches 100%.  It also seems timed with the pulses which occur when battery is trickle charged near 100%.
  • Sound seems to be from the subwoofer, but muting all sound volume (or just subwoofer) has no effect.
  • Sound not noticeable when playing a song or other sound
  • Pitch of the squeal changes when laptop is "more active", for example when searching on the hard drive.

It sounds almost like an "electronic squeal" rather than a beep or audio sound.  It sounds similar to the squealing from a power supply when it's unplugged or first plugged in.  It DEFINITELY sounds like it's coming from the speaker, but it could be that the power supply is behind the speaker - the battery and speaker are close together.  Maybe power "bleed-off" to the speaker?

sashby-

I think you've described it exactly. However, I notice the other day that if I remove the battery while charging the battery and the "beeping" is occurring the sound went away...however after I put the battery back in it started to "squeal" (steady feedback (high-pitch) sound). And for what it's worth, the sound feeds back into our baby monitor as well.

I agree with you in respects to Dell monitoring these forums...there seems to be zero support.

Is this in anyway dangerous??? I have this on an insprion 640m. Also, is this only with the defaults adaptor? I remeber seeing someother type of adaptors.

I have a 6 cell battery with the default adaptor. The beeping is annyoing but if it's not dangerous I can put up with it for a while.

At least someone got their's to quit beeping. It would be nice to get an official reply from dell with regards to this issue, especially with all the battery recalls that have been happening. -roxcoe

Was it a new motherboard of the same brand/type (like the one that came w/ the laptop) or was it a different kind. I actually just recieved this laptop.
