Latitude D510 problems with power

I have a Latitude D510 and I am having the same problem.  The green light is on on the adapter, but the laptop won't run on the power cord and the battery won't charge.  So the laptop is useless at this point and only 1 year old. 

Have you received any feedback or can someone please help?  I have been told to let the battery completely decharge and recalb. itself.  I am waiting for that right now, but I have a feeling it isn't going to work.  I am crossing my fingers!

No i didn't received any feedback yet, but what do you meen by let the battery completely decharge and recalb. itself. How do you do that,  because when i put another battery in there, i have still the same problem.

But did the sollution resolve the problem ?

I think I may have figured it out.  I called Dell this morning and they told me it was one of two things: 1) the power supply cord or 2) the motherboard.  I can run it with a battery just fine, which would eliminate the motherboard in my opinion.  As far as I understand, if it was the motherboard, the computer wouldn't work at all.  I read a few posts of other people who had similar problems and most seemed to go back to the power supply cord.  Dell had me take out the battery and try to boot with just the power supply cord and it wouldn't work.  Like I said, the green light is lit on the supply box, I think it overheated and fried or something.  I ordered a new cord today and am crossing my fingers that this will fix the problem.

Before I called Dell, I was told that if you drain the battery completely and then take it out and let it sit for an hour or so, it would like reconfigure or recalibrate itself. Apparently the Litho batteries do this, but it didn't work for me.  So I am not sure that is even worth trying.  It actutally put me in a worse position, because now the battery is wiped and I can't use the computer at all.

I will let you know how I make out with the cord.  My computer just hit a year old and if it is the motherboard, Dell and I will be going to Court, because that is just plan crazy for a $1200.00 notebook.

I hope that it will work , but i have also tried another powersupply and i have still the same problem. Powersupply and battery from the broken laptop will work fine in another laptop ( powersupply and battery from the working laptop is not working in the broken one), i think that it is the motherboard ( but than only the power integration,something like that) so it is not involving the rest of the motherboard. Because i read some things about the C series and they have an loose connector on the motherboard so you can change that pcb. For the D they don't have that so change the whole motherboard.

The only thing i can try, (i can do that only on my work, thakes some time) is put the laptop in an dockingstation, maybe he used than another way to take the power.

Oh boy - Well I am not too optimistic about my new cord idea anymore.  I will still try it I guess.  I told Dell that if that's not what the problem is I am returning the cord.  I will without a doubt take it to small claims unless they replace the motherboard for free.  There is no way we should have to pay to replace that.  I don't know a whole lot about the motherboards other than they are expensive.  Do you happen to know how much they can go for??

Hmmmmm...not sounding too good for either of us I think!  I will wait for the cord and try that and go from there I guess. I will let you know if it worked or not...even though you have already tried...or if I find out anything else.  Thanks for the help and good luck!

Oh...I meant to ask you too if you replaced the adapter and the power cord or just the power cord?  Dell tells me you need to do both.

I've test it with an dell port repeater and that's working, Powered on and battery charching without any problems.

Only problem is that in my case the repeater 200,- euro cost.

Let me know if the sollution from dell is working when you received it.

I just got the new power supply cord from Dell today, and of course, the laptop is at home and I am at the office.  I am pretty sure this will fix my problem, because I checked the voltage on the old power supply and it was all over the place.  It is suppose to be 19.5 and it would jump up to 22 and then down to 10.  I will let you know tomorrow if it worked.

I thought about the docking station as well, but I use the laptop at home and I don't have a monitor there.  It is a good alternative to the battery chargers that go for $2,000.00 and the new motherboard though.  Thanks, if this doesn't work I may just have to do that.

Well the power supply cord didn't work...go figure!  After many calls and much moaning and complaining to Dell, they are coming to get my laptop today and are replacing the motherboard at their cost.  There is another person posting with the same problem now...and I made sure I told Dell that too!
