Hi,

Since we have exhausted all the possible troubleshooting steps, I would recommend you to re install the operating system. Below are the steps:

Note: - Please backup all your data as you will lose everything saved on your system. This includes all your pictures, music, documents etc. All the programs/software which you installed on the system will be deleted.  Also, if your system was shipped with MS office starter, the same cannot be re installed.

• Insert the windows Install DVD into the DVD drive, and then restart your computer. When the message press any key to boot from the CD or DVD ... appears, press a key to continue booting to the DVD.

• After Windows 7 setup loads, confirm the language, time, currency and keyboard method settings are correct then click 'Next'.

• On the windows 7 Installation page, click 'Install Now'.

• Review the terms and click 'I accept the license terms' to proceed.

• On the 'Which type of installation do you want?' Window, click Custom (advanced).

• On the 'Where do you want to install Windows' window, make sure the largest primary partition is selected then click 'Next'. If the primary partition has 0GB free, there should be a separate line for unallocated space. Select this unallocated space and click 'Next'.

Note: Your computer will restart several times during installation.

• The next couple of screens allow you to personalize and customize Windows 7.

• Once you see the desktop, you are ready to move on to the next step.

Below is the link for the operating system re installation:-

Once the opreting system is re installed, install the drivers in the following sequence:

1. Chipset.
2. Video driver.
3. Network Interface Card.
4. Audio adapter.
5. Wireless Network Card.
6. Touchpad.
7. Bluetooth, if applicable.

Please let me know if you need assistance in installing the drivers.

I would like to inform you that the PSA error code that you mentioned would have the error message along with it. I would appreciate if you can let me know the exact error message that you get. Please post a screen show with the error code/message, if possible.

Keep me posted. Please reply for further questions.

Thanks Vikram - I gave up around noon yesterday and reimaged the machine with ConfigMgr.

Thankfully appears to have been an OS corruption as I haven't BSOD'd on the machine since reimaging.

Hi,

You should change the SATA operation settings from "RAID Autodetect/ACHI" tO "Raid Autodetect/ATA" in system setup(BIOS). Below are the steps:

  • Restart the computer.
  • Press immediately after the keyboard LEDs flash to enter the BIOS (System Setup).
  • In the "System Setup" screen, press or to highlight the "Drives " section, and then press .
  • Press the or to highlight the "SATA Operation " section, and then press .
  • Press the or to highlight "RAID Autodetect / ATA ", and then press .
  • Press escape and highlight “Save/Exit“using, and then press .
  • Restart your system and check if the issue is fixed.

You can also run the diagnostics on your system to check the hardware functionality:

  • Restart your system and keep tapping “F12” as soon as the Dell logo appears.
  • Highlight “Diagnostics” and press enter.
  • Please make a note of the error code, if you get any.

Boot your system to “Safe Mode with networking” and run Intel Driver Update Utility. Below are the steps:

  • Restart your system and keep tapping “F12” as soon as the Dell logo appears.
  • Highlight “Safe Mode with networking” using up and down arrow keys and press enter.
  • Once the system boots in “Safe Mode with networking”, run the Intel Driver Update Utility from the following link:

      http://intel.ly/OPWrVg

  • Click on the above link and follow the on screen instructions. This utility should install/repair any Intel’s corrupt driver.

If the above steps do not work, you can try doing a system restore from “Safe Mode with networking”:

  • Click on “Start” and click on “All Programs”.
  • Go to “Accessories” and select “System Tools”.
  • Click on “System Restore”.
  • On the “Welcome to System Restore page, click to select the “Restore my computer to an earlier timeoption, and then click “Next.
  • On the “Select a Restore Point page, select the date when the system was working fine and click on “Next”.

Note: A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click “OK.

  • On the “Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click “Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
  • Login to the normal mode and click “OK on the System Restore “Restoration Complete page.

Keep me posted. Please reply for any further questions.

Intel Driver Update Utility will not install.

I've added http://*.intel.com to trusted sites & lowered Trusted Site security down to the lowest setting.

I'm connected via my phone therefore no firewall. I've also tried while being connected to my company's secure network and our guest network.

Hi Vikram!

The SATA operation setting was actually at RAID ON. I changed it to AHCI and get into a boot loop with Windows. Running Startup Repair multiple times (as reccomended in many boot-loop situations) does not work.

Changing from AHCI to ATA also boot loops. Repair does not help.

I have not done the usual steps with bootrec and bcdedit yet.

The PSA diagnostics only threw errors 2000:8003. Dell Diagnostic CD did not throw any errors.

MemTest86+ ran 23 successful tests overnight with 0 errors.

I will let this current Startup Repair finish then boot into Safe Mode w/ Networking and try using Intel's Driver Update Utility. I will also switch the computer back to using RAID ON as the SATA operation mode before this.

Also,  Last Known Good Configuration did not work in resolving the BSOD. I have also done System Restores to two previous points in the past (both were Windows Updates, if I remember correctly), but neither helped resolve the BSOD.

Again, computer is Win7 x86 6.1.7601.7.0.256.4
