If im right, its only a feature of the touchpad. u position the mousepointer over an object, and push only once on the touchpad. The touchpad accepts this as if u pushed the left mouse-button. At least, it is at my inspiron that way...

    ReQuestor,

Thank you for the added details.

Look in the Mouse item in the Control Panel under the Pointer Options tab.  Make sure that the Snap To box is unchecked.

I have updated my profile.  The only addition I can think for the message is to call it self selecting instead of mouse hover.  The action is to select an icon, or begin an area select, without my action.  If is wait to long to move the mouse pointer it acts like I pressed the button.

Since almost every one using the inspiron, has either a mouse or keypad problem, why don't you guys try to find out exactly what is going on.Everything you ask us to do, we do and really it takes us no where or maybe we really donot know how to do it right. What can you tell us to do now?
