problem with "dxdiag"
hey, i have a dimension 8300 with 512mb ram, 2,6ghz. videocard is an ati radeon 9800. the problem i have is, that several games just wont run on my system. i tried the dxdiag program to find out what it might me. in the direct 3d test i had an error message, because i can´t see the cube you´re supposed to see during that test. it says:
Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 32 (User verification of Direct3D rendering): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)
what is the probem? i uninstalled the videodriver and replaced it with the newest one from dell. then i reinstalled directx 9.0b and i even updated the chipset drivers, but the problem just wont go away.
does anyone know what else i could do to fix my problem? ...
thanks, tosh

heh... first, this is the inspiron "laptop" board... but that's okay =)
second, for desktop systems, i think you'd be better off runnin' ati's official/reference vid-card drivers:
http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/winxp/radeonwdm-xp.html?type=xp&prodType=graphic&prod=productsXPdriver&submit.x=11&submit.y=12
or you could try omegacorner's tweaked drivers:

and... i know you said you re-installed directX9.0b... but where did you get it from... a game disc?
here's a link to the full version from microsoft:
directX 9.0b full...
