Scrolling device in 8600?
Hey Guys,
I was thinking of buying an 8600 laptop but I saw it at the dell direct store and it did not have a scrolling device. I know the new gateways have a scrolling device built into the touch pad to scroll up and down documents. Will the new dell 9100 have a scrolling device? I have become so used to using the one on my mouse I would not be able to browse the web without one anymore.
Thanks :)

I was playing with the 8600 in the dell direct store and I saw no such scroll ability on the touchpad, do I have to special order it?
Thanks!

the touchpads have scroll as an option in the right side. I have used 3 laptops over the past year and synaptics has an awesome touch pad with very advanced controls. The one on the 600M are weaker but still more useful than a mouse in regular web surfing.

One of the gestures is the scrolling. Defaulting on the right side of the touchpad, you can scroll up and down. To enable this feature, go to Control Panel > Mouse Options > Gestures tab > Enable "Scrolling..."

It doesn't have designated buttons, but you can set it up to use the right side of the touch pad as a scroll bar. It is under mouse settings I believe. I use this feature instead of the buttons on an old Compaq of mine as well.

Im not sure if its true for the i8600 but on the i8500 you can simply click both mouse buttons (touchpad or trackstick set) at the same time and then scroll by moving the pointer away from the displayed arrows.
