System Heating
Anyone who has a 8600 Inspiron Notebook please reply.
I bought my daughter an 8600 notebook about 20 months ago with a 15.4" display. She has consistently complained about the temperature it generates while in use. She cannot use the system on her lap after it's powered up for 30 minutes. The whole left side top and bottom of the system is a great deal warmer than that of the right side that always seem to be at room temperature. Recently, a new replacement fan, heatsink, and mother board was installed. The replacement fan outer cover had a louver design change. The original fan cover was solid. Even with this modification the system continues to generate uncomfortable and distracting heat.
Those of you who have this model notebook please respond about your experiences with heat if any.
A final note. This model is no longer being offered by Dell and has been discontinued. Additionally, the battery it has is not on the recall list provided by Dell.

Putting it on her lap w/o a solid surface doesnt allow for good air circulation and thus it will get warmer than it should.
Also, the left side gets the warmest because that's where the hard drive and memory modules are located. The right side just has a DVD drive which rarely should get warm.
The battery itself will generate a little bit of heat, and as I said earlier, if that doesnt have any breathing room will get quite warm.
Something to look into would be a cooling pad which you can get from Staples / Best Buy any place like that, you just set your laptop on it, and it has 2 fans that circulate air into / out of the laptop and runs on a USB port.
