Feature Management Dashboard and general health state issue

Hello,

I have an issue with the Feature Management Dashboard in the v7.0 Management Pack Suite and a slightly odd health state problem which is probably related.

I have a management group split between our main datacentre and our DR site with two management servers (one at each site) which have the management pack suite installed. These two servers are part of a resource pool intended to monitor the Dell equipment deployed to both sites.

Despite the fact that I have imported the Dell management packs the Feature Management Dashboard shows the monitoring level for each management pack as "Not Installed". In "Feature Management Tasks" the import tasks have completed successfully and there are no errors. I have no alerts listed in "Feature Management Alerts".

Even though the management packs show as "Not Installed" I can discover servers and chassis, but I can only see health state of chassis in the SCOM console on the management servers with the Management Pack Suite installed. On all the other management servers, if I select the VRTX chassis state view the components appear to be unmonitored (i.e. a green circle with a white fill) whereas on the management servers where the Management Pack Suite is installed I see the health state for the components. Having said that, the health state is slightly confusing - for example I have a VRTX with a failed power supply - the "Dell Power Chassis Power Supply" state is "Critical", the "Dell Chassis Power Supply Group" is "Warning" and the chassis health state is "Healthy". This cant be right can it?

Any pointers appreciated.

Steve

Hi Steve,

Find my response Inline

1)Even though the management packs show as "Not Installed"

"Run refresh Dashboard task" to update your dashboard.

2)I can discover servers and chassis, but I can only see health state of chassis in the SCOM console on the management servers with the Management Pack Suite installed. On all the other management servers, if I select the VRTX chassis state view the components appear to be unmonitored (i.e. a green circle with a white fill) whereas on the management servers where the Management Pack Suite is installed I see the health state for the components. Having said that, the health state is slightly confusing - for example I have a VRTX with a failed power supply - the "Dell Power Chassis Power Supply" state is "Critical", the "Dell Chassis Power Supply Group" is "Warning" and the chassis health state is "Healthy"

DSMPS7.0 suite is required to be installed on both management Servers ,as for discovery and monitoring MP depends on DLL helper Utility which gets installed part of suite

Hello,

Thanks for your post.

I have indeed refreshed the dashboard - the status remains "not installed"

I have installed the management pack suite on both servers responsible for managing Dell hardware. The servers and chassis are discovered by these management servers and the health status (irrespective of how well the overall health status rolls up) is displayed on the console installed on these management servers. Other consoles installed on other management servers or on analysts workstations do not - this cant be right can it?

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

1)Feature management dashboard not populating

Can you please share us FMP logs to do that please use below screenshot for reference. Log location

C:\Windows\Temp\DellFeatureMonitoring_Logs

Enable FMP LogsEnable FMP Logs

2)Few Chassis components shown as un-monitored

Few Chassis components are kept un-monitored as per design, below table i have picked from UG clearly shows which all components are monitored. Here "NO" indicates that we are not monitoring.

3) Powersupply health not rolling up to MAin Chassis componenet

To monitor the health of Chassis main compoenent, associate the community string Run As account with the SNMP Monitoring Account with the target as the Dell CMCs class or respective Chassis object.
