2001FP 20" or 2005WFP 20" Wide - Good quality? Would you recommend it?

 I'm thinking of buying a digital flat panel dispay, either the 2001FP 20" ($489) or 2005WFP 20" Wide ($464).
How good are these monitors? Are they worth the cost? Or should I consider other brands.
They are expensive, and I don't like buying without viewing in person, so I'd like your opinions, if you are using one.

Also, it's interesting that the wide screen is actually a little less $$$ than the regular. Any advantages/disadvantages to a wide screen?

 Thanks for your help!

Just do a search for both monitors on this forum. You will find that the chances of getting a good 2005 are about 1%, a good 2001 less then 50%.

From personnel experience, I received 3 unacceptable 2005, I gave up after that.

Those prices are part of a special offer Dell sent me via e-mail. The 8400 desktop is offered at 30% off. I guess the monitors are also discounted. Perhaps because of all the unhappy customers KO posted about. Thanks for your help!

I have the 2001FP and I absolutely love it.  Originally I had the 1905FP and experienced major issues with ghosting.  I researched the 2001FP and found that the only problem people were really having was with dead pixels.  The first 2001FP had a couple of dead pixels so I sent it back for a replacement and the replacement was/is perfect.  I have experienced no ghosting with the 2001FP which was important because I mostly use my computer for gaming.  I was considering the 2005WP but I found that people were getting montiors that had severe back light leakage and dead pixels.  After receiving multiple replacements I found they still had the same problems.

I would highly suggest the 2001FP.

Thanks, Jon, I'll check into that monitor.

How do you like your 8400. I'm thinking of getting the same pc, but with only 1GB of memory.

I have a 2001fp and it is very good indeed.  Have had probs with dvi but there is not much difference between that and vga anyway.  Very sharp picture.

I love my 8400.  My 8400 was an upgrade from an old  Dell, P2 400Mhz, 256ram,  32meg graphics card and a 9 gig hard drive, so this was quite a change.  My new computer is awesome, it runs Doom3, Half Life2, and FarCry with ease.  Media Center was also a nice feature, Pausing/ Recording/Rewinding live TV with the (optional) TV Tuner is a must have.  The MUCH larger 250GB HD is nice, although I plan to add another 250 GB in the near future.  The Media Center TV recordings take up a lot of space, I think its roughly 4-6GB for like an hour of TV, depending on the quality.  DVD/CD Burner is a great, haven't used the DVD part yet, but it burns CDs really fast, compared to my old 4x. Heh.  The 5.1 speakers was a great addition, they provide pretty good sound, for the price, while watching DVDs and playing games.  And I can not speak highly enough of the monitor.  The 2001FP is simply amazing.  The high 1600x1200 resolution takes some getting used to, but when you make the adjustment, it is awesome.  Overall I am very pleased with my system.  I have only had it a little over a month now, so it is still pretty new to me.  I don't think you will have any regrets in purchasing an 8400, I know I don't.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Im on my 3rd 2001FP, now all I get are refurbed models thanks to the wonderful 21 day replacement policy. The first new monitor had a defective DVI input. The second quit working completely after 15 minutes of being turned on. Still waiting for #3 to see if it will actually work. Im running a HP XW6000 workstation with a Nvidia 980XGL dual monitor graphics card, 2gig of memory and dual XEON 2.8 Ghz CPU's. I'd be looking elsewhere if I was you...

I would NOT recommend the 2005FPW or Dell as a company. As a consultant, I have always recommended Dell's LCDs to companies that I deal with. However, due to my personal experience and Dell's neglect in resolving it in a timely manner, I will no longer do so. I am on my 7th 2005FPW (5 new, 2 referbished) - all defective. All of these monitors have had varing degrees of backlighting issues as well as stuck pixels. IMO, Dell's customer support has been very poor in resolving this issue. A couple of examples... I was promised new monitors when the two referbished 2005FPWs were shipped to me. I was later promised an upgrade to a 2405FPW due to the service that I had received. I called back as instructed and was informed by the CSR that they will not honor the upgrade. I have sent two private messages to "Dell Jessie" on this forum and did not hear a reply either time. I am now awaiting a call from a "higher level" tech support person - I'm not sure why, exactly. If I were you or anyone else here looking to purchase an LCD, I would strongly suggest that you look elsewhere.

Thanks, Tremens.

Because of your post and others, I've decided not to buy a Dell monitor. The idea that a company would replace a faulty new monitor with a refurbished unit is totally unacceptable. Thanks for your input.
