Did anyone ever answer this?

I just bought my 2001FP about a two weeks ago. Have it hooked up via DVI w my Radeon 9800XP and have the same prob. Boots up fine, shows DOS spam, but remains blank after Windows start up--if I shut the monitor off and on, it clears the problem and the Windows blue logon screen appears. Running Windows XP Pro.

The good news is that I can work around the problem (shutting it on and off). The bad news is that it's annoying to have spent so much money on monitor/card and have to use a hack =P

Suggestions? (yes, monitor driver and video drivers are latest versions; all xp updates have been applied)

Hmmm,, I am having the save problem since I install my new Dell Ultrasharp 2001FP monitor.

I have a Dell Demision 4300 with ATI 9600 Pro.

I just heard that Dell has start a replacement program and service about this issue.

This is what i found today at www.zdnet.com.

"The fix involves updating the affected PC's drivers and resetting the monitor's EDID, or extended display identification data, which contains the settings for the monitor. When the EDID is corrupted by the driver mismatch, it can cause a display not to work, according to Dell"

"Customers who update their PC's drivers only may continue to experience the problem until they also reset the EDID.

The problem can be tackled in a few ways, according to Fad. First, to get the display to work, people can switch their desktop to an analog interface using the analog video cable supplied with the monitor. Then they must update their drivers and reset the EDID. "

So how do you reset the EDID? I have a similar issue.

HTWingnut,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

What video card do you have installed in your system?

Been a few months and I'm still having the problem. I ended up calling Dell Support about a few days after my initial post. Spent about 30 mins troubleshooting w the service rep (that's after the 1 1/2 hrs on hold, btw); no dice. He suggested I send the monitor in for replacement/service.

I didn't follow his suggestion and decided to live w it--fueled by the dread of getting a new/rebuilt monitor w dead pixels (I have 0 on this one).

If there's a programmatic fix for this, I'd love to get in on it as well. I have a Radeon 9800 XTPro. Using it in my P4-- ASUS P4T533-C, 2.66 GHz, 1.25GB RDRAM PC 1066, Creative SB Audigy; running WinXT Pro. Thanks.

Got the file that was sent, thanks. Haven't tried it yet, though. Just as a troubleshooting, I hooked it up to my Radeon 9700 Pro and similar issues. Thing is, sometimes the screen is blank, other times it seems to come up just fine. Sometimes if the screen is blank, I turn it off, then back on again, and all seems to be fine for a bit, at least until I cycle the power on my PC/Monitor. I'll try the file that was sent and report back.

Thanks!

Well, I tried the "fix" and at least I seem to be able to see the system POST at bootup, but I never had a monitor fully stuck in "sleep" mode. Only sometimes when I would boot up.

Time will tell I guess, as it has been an intermittent issue. I also purchased a quality cable for $25 several months ago. I am not willing to spend $100 on a Monster cable since that is ridiculous to have to spend that extra money to get this issue resolved. It is livable for now.

Hi DELL-Jesse,

I also have a GeForce Ti4200.  Could I also have the drivers and directions on EDID.

Thank you.

My 2001FP worked fine for a month connected via the DVI cable. Then one day the display didn't show anything until the XP login screen, then the next thing I knew, it wouldn't display anything! I mean nothing! When I hooked it up to another 'puter, all was fine.

After a LOT of troubleshooting, I replaced the DVI cable with the SVGA, and everything worked. I would really appreciate some assistance in resolving this gremlin. If you could email that patch w/ instructions, I would appreciate it!
