2005FPW Resolution Compared to 2405FPW
Hi,
I have a 2005FPW and running at the 1680 x 1050 resolution. The text size for general use and in gaming is the smallest I could possibly use it at. Now the 2405FPW has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 would the text be much smaller than the 1680 x 1050 resolution? or is the extra resolution of 1920 X 1200 due to the extra realestate of the screen and the text size will be the same size?
Man I wish Dell would just say here is the bottom line pricing and skip this Percentage off and add on coupons that change all the time. I bought the 2405FPW yesterday and can get it for $75 less today and I am sure there will be 25% off with coupons as well in the future so I just canceled the order and will wait but I have never seen anything at this resolution so I hadn't thought about the text size.
As a note I have two a 2005FPW's both Rev 01, Feb2005 Built in Mex. These are my sixth and seventh replacements and one of them is perfect no backight leakage or bad pixels and the other has no bad pixels but server backlight leakage so I am sending it back for a refund and will keep the good one.

Jesse,Thanks a bunch for the reply. That is what I thought. Sounds like I will be better off with the 2005FPW as I run that at native resolution and it is fine for me.Thanks again,- Maybe check your local Compusa if you have one. I've seen 24 or 23 inch widescreen HPs and Sonys now and then there, plus the 23inch Apple Cinema. So maybe you can get an idea of the text size on those as they all probably have the same res. But don't get mesmerized by the 30inch Apple Cinema display.
I'm guessing though that because the LCD is 3 inches larger the font sizes might be near the same as the 2005fpw despite the larger resolution.Message Edited by TimothyBH on 03-03-2005 12:26 AM
Have you tried turning up the dot pitch of your font? The number of dots used to draw the fonts does not change with resolution, so on a screen that has crammed a lot of pixels into a smaller space the fonts will appear tiny.
You can increas the DPI settings for text as a workaround for this, if it bothers you. Right click your desktop, choose properties, click the settings tab, hit the advanced button. The first tab that comes up has the DPI setting at the top...you can try the Large (120 DPI) setting first, otherwise choose 'custom'
Here you can click and drag the 'ruler' to change the size of the sample text at the bottom. Mess with that until you're more comfortable with the size.

Getting back to the original question, text on the 2405fpw will look slightly larger than text on the 2005fpw. How I determined this was to look at the specifications for each monitor, here on the Dell site. The 2005 has a pixel pitch (size of each pixel) of 0.258 millimeters. The 2405, has a pixel pitch of 0.270 millimeters.Message Edited by Larry Parker on 03-04-2005 10:41 PM
- I just got mine and the text size is very comfortable to read and not small at all. The font size is much larger than my old 2000FP monitor (I needed glasses to read the 2000FP text).
I was worried about the text size when ordering the 24 inch too, but let me tell you that the font size is large enough to read (Dell wised up). I think the high rez applies to extra realestate and not font size. I am so happy with this new LCD. Please read my full review at beginning of this forum. petersondm

Yes, the 1920 x 1200 would be pretty small.
