2007WFP - Color Banding?

I'm hearing that th3 2007WFP is having common color banding problems. I received mine a few days ago, and the banding is pretty bad. I definitely want to send it back, but is it just this particular model? This is very important to me, as a large amount of usage on this monitor will be for photo work and graphic design. Thanks.

It seems to be the DVI part of the panel that is causing the colour banding issues. I also own this display and notice colour banding when using the DVI adapter. When switching to VGA, the banding does not seem to be an issue. I'd be interested on what Dell has to say about this problem; many people are now starting to confirm it.

I would definitely be interested in sending it back only if i was assured that the new one did not have this issue.

I'm just using the bundled DVI cable without an adapter and still getting the banding. I really love this monitor besides that fact. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed, or is just a bad batch because this thing is beautiful and performs amazingly.

I agree, the display is very nice with the exception of the colour banding issues.

There is definitely a problem with the DVI..i have another cable on order from DataPro and will see if the banding is still there with the new cable.

Oh man -- yeah, let me know how that goes! I'm definitely interested to see if it's just the cable. That would be awesome.

Is this because 2007 has lower bit LCD than 2005?

Is it possible that you can't see with VGA because it's analog?

That can't be the case, because the problem is not visible when using a VGA connection to the display.

I will definitley let you know if the new DVI cable addresses the issue.

To be completely honest though, i'm not holding my breath ;)

On a side note, can we get anyone from Dell to speak out on this issue? Anyone?

I want to give them a call today, actually. I want to see if this is something they are planning on correcting - a recall would be nice. The image quality is just unacceptable considering the cost of this monitor.

I suppose that is a possibility as well.

In either case, i am waiting on the new DVI cable to arrive and will make my decision then.

PLEASE let us know if the cable fixes the problem! I'm thinking of picking up a new, high quality DVI cable today just to see if it will work also. Thanks.

I think you should not hesitate to return back your LCD if you don't like it. Don't expect DELL to fix your problems. If you don't want to pay the returning shipping cost, tell it to them. DELL knows all problems of their products, and fixes only some which they think they need, and they say 'investigating' for others. ;-)
I returned 2005 last year, and am happy with 2405 now.

Ok, update:

Ran the color gradient tests again using a new DVI cable, and the banding is still there.

Looks like i'm sending it back..

My advice to anyone thinking about purchasing a 2007WFP would be to wait, don't buy it, or look elsewhere...this LCD is defective when using DVI!

Thanks for the update, man. I actually called and got my Return Authorization Number a couple hours ago. Looks like I'll be getting a ViewSonic VX2025wm instead. And hey, it's a bit less expensive!

I have been tracking this issue. I was about to purchase, when people first started reporting faulty DVI. The problem appears to affect every Dell 2007 monitor, so I won't be purchasing one at this time.

I wanted one of these monitors, if Dell gets the bugs out before I purchase something eles, I will buy one.

Here is what I have seen so far:

Every Dell 2007FP and every Dell 2007FPW tested through the DVI port has quite bad color banding.I have read reports of people trying different cables, computers, returning up to 3 times. All to no avail. They are all broken.

It is so prevalent and so obvious that Dell must know of this issue. They had just hoped that most people wouldn't notice. Dell doesn't make quality decisions, they make monetary ones. It is probably cheaper to deal with 10%; returns than fix the problem. So they will deal with the returns. If returns hit 50%; and the sales drop off, then they might fix it.

I would not suggest anyone buy one of these monitors. They clearly have defective DVI inputs. People who have 2005FPW sitting next to a 2007FPW report no such issue on the 2005FPW, so it is not a common LCD trait or even a trait of the IPS screen in the 2005/2007, it is a introduced bug. Perhaps an attempt to use cheaper components.

Either way avoid this one until you get a clear indication it is fixed, if you hear it is fixed, make sure you check out yours when you get it.
