C1422H, no USB-C signal from your device

I have two Dell C1422H monitors which came with their own USB-C cables. I own a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop which only has one USB-C port. When connecting directly to it the monitors work individually. When using a docking station or splitter, or even a USB-C to HDMI cable instead of the included USB-C cable, the monitors do not work. Are these monitors only compatible when connected directly to a laptop via the included USB-C to USB-C cables? I've never been more annoyed with something. I've tried 3-4 different docking stations and splitters and 3-4 different cables.

The C1422H are only validated using the supplied 1M USB-C cable.

The online C1422H User's Guide page 20 shows the supported dock configurations. All three supported dock configurations have the C1422H connected directly to the Laptop USB-C, not the dock. This was designed for use with Laptops that have two USB-C ports.
