DELL U2410

Bought this monitor new from Novatech in Portsmouth and have today noticed whilst gently dusting that the top of the monitor from top left to top right corners the actual panel itself moves around 2mm and makes a crackling noise. I am certain this can't be normal. I followed advice from a different thread regarding how to arrange swapover without a ID tag as I bought this from a retailer and not direct from Dell but the link just brings me back to a page where I can't progress until I have an ID tag. This is really frustrating as it appears so easy to buy the   thing but extremley hard to exchange it. I suppose im just going to have to write off nearly £500.00 a buy something else. As a last ditched attempt anyone know how to arrange a replacement without this ID TAG?
Thanks in advance. George.

Hi As per subject heading. Was giving my Dell U2410 a gentle dust as have had for just a week and noticed the top of panel from top lef to top right corner to corner moves inwards a couple off mm when applying gentle pressure. Is this normal or do I have a faulty one. Many thanks in advance. George.

    bulldogplec,

Only the 27" and 30" monitors received a service tag number. All others would use the Dell Order number. Contact the reseller and get the original Dell order number for the monitor. That Dell order number will tell us the start and end date of the warranty. If they paid for the warranty, we can transfer the monitor warranty into your name. If they cannot provide a Dell order number, we cannot verify the warranty period. All the PPID serial number does is show us the manufacturer date. It is not tied to the warranty purchased by the seller.

You should call them 023 9232 2500 and they should setup the monitor exchange. Also, their own website incorrectly states that the U2410 has a "3yr On-site Warranty". That is false. None of our monitors carry an onsite warranty. My advice, get your money back from them and then purchase the U2410 directly from our website. You will then get a Dell Order number with the warranty attached to it.

Thanks for info. I have now returned and got refund. Novatechs price is actually more expensive than your current price. What I would like to now before I buy is, is it normal for the top and the bottom of screen to move within the frame?

Also if I receive a faulty unit with either the same problem, dead pixels or another problem then am I guaranteed to get a brand new replacement or would the only option be a refurbished unit. This will be important as I will base my decision to purchase on your answer. Many Thanks  George.

Not sure why a few words were removed highlighted in red, weren't swear words?

Anyway I have asked , asked and asked but no one will give me a straight answer.

IS THE TOP AND BOTTOM OF ACTUAL PANEL IN THE U2410 MEANT TO MOVE WITHIN THE CASING? YES OR NO?

I  returned the screen to Novatech and after they checked out the screen gave me a refund.

I purchased another Dell U2410 direct from Dell and received today a couple of hours ago. Although the panel movement is not as bad it does still move.

Basically if I very gently with a duster clean the screen the top of screen, the screen moves inwards. This time the sides and bottom of panel are rigid as expected. Can anyone confirm who has a Dell U2410 if the panel moves inwards within the casing. With gentle pressure applied the screen make a crunching broken glass type sound. Have I been unlucky and received a second screen as part of a faulty batch or are they just made like this. Screen was made in July 2012 and Rev A11.

Don't wan't to risk swapping for another screen which might be worse like the last one but at the same time if faulty would like a non fault item .

    Any help would be appreciaed.

All I would like to ask from anyone who has a Dell U2410 is if when applying gentle pressure for example when dusting with a duster, Does the screen move inwards around the edges. I would like to know if I have been unlucky and received 2 different U2410's with the same fault or are they meant to be like this. When I apply gentle pressure across the top around 1" below the bezel the screen moves inwards a few mm and makes a crackling noise but not as bad as the first one I took back. If someone could spend a few seconds to check I would be grateful. This screen was manuf July 2012 and is latest Revision A11. Thanks in advance. George.

    Hi George,

The screen moving inwards is a normal characteristic of TFT LCD screen and happens by virtue of design. Built of TFT screen comprises of electronically sensitive crystals pressed between two thin sheets of plastic. This feature makes cleaning it a trickier process than cleaning a glass-encased CRT monitor screen. Putting pressure on a TFT monitor can cause permanent damage to the electronically sensitive crystals pressed between two thin sheets of plastic. So to clean it properly, you may want to use a lint-free cloth and very gentle pressure.

Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.

I am not sure if you fully understand my query.

I mean the actual panel moves at the top and not the sides. It appears that it is not tight enough inside the frame.

When gentle pressure is applied with a link free cloth to the top to clean, the actual screen moves backwards a few mm and feels as though it has not been glued to the frame at the top. It basically is not a tight fit. It is not the same as the bottom and sides. The bottom and sides have no movement and are rigid inside the frame.

    bulldogplec,

I have three Dell monitors (2407WFP, 2408WFP, 2208WFP) and all do this to some degree.
