E773c

hi,

i have a dimension 8300 since august 2003. In the beginning everything worked fine, but since a month: the monitor keeps on showing the same OR gets in standby, the keyboard doesn't react anymore and if there was a sound playing, my boxes keep on repeating it. When I cut the power and restart the computer it, just before i should see the blue 'welcome screen', the monitor gets in standby again. When i do excatly the same as before, the computer starts normally... And i've had once a pop-up with: 'send rapport' which said: 'the monitor can't finish the 'rebuild or layer or....'  operation/process (i don't now the proper translation in english  ). So i think this is a monitor problem... i have 3 years 'next-business-day-on-site', so would i get a new monitor if needed? Or is it a driver problem???

thanks

further specifictions:

Pentium 4; 2.6Ghz; 512 Mb RAM; E773c monitor; 128Mb ATI 9800 Card...

can anyone help please?

its possibly a graphics card driver error, at least, that what the pop-up of microsoft  (with the 'tell microsoft...') says. 'dxdiag' couldn't find any problems, and when i try to change the driver (with the cd-rom included by monitor) it says the driver is the newest as can be found... what do i have to do?

You are wasting your time here trying to get an answer on the E773c. Trust me.

it happend again, but now a screen appeard which said: 'out of frequency' and there were some color-bars above (blue, red, green)... does someone know what this means? I installed a new driver from www.ati.com, but seems like the problems aren't fixed yet ...

fvdh,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Try going into safe mode by pressing the Delete key while booting up. Once you have all the choices on the screen you can choose safe mode. Once in safe mode go into the display properties and change the display to its lowest settings. Reboot the machine and let it go into windows normally. You then can put the monitor in its prime mode

Setting the Optimal Resolution: Dell E773c Color Monitor User's Guide

For optimal monitor performance while using the Microsoft® Windows® operating systems, set the display resolution to 1024 x 768@75Hz by performing the following steps:

1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Display icon in the Control Panel window, and then click the Settings tab.
3. In the Desktop area, move the slider bar to 1024 by 768 pixels. Then click Apply.
4. When prompted to apply the settings, click OK. Your screen will turn black for a moment.
5. Once your screen resolution changes, you have 15 seconds to confirm the change. Click Yes to confirm the change.
6. On the Settings tab, click Advanced.
7. On the Monitor tab, in the Refresh Frequency list, select 75 Hertz. Then click OK.

hi,

i did what you said, and it worked for a while: i could even play unreal tournament for 5 minutes (otherwise i could play it at all) but then: same again, except: the screen wasn't black, but just showing the same AND i could move the mouse pointer... and when i did, there appeared a little square on the left corner above at the screen in white and black (like "snow" on your television) and when i moved the pointer the square grew bigger till let's say one inch lenght and then it 'dissapeared' and grew again when i moved the mouse...

fvdh,

What resolution does the game say it needs to be played at? Does this happen in all programs or just the game?

hi,

i don't know what the best resolution is to play unreal tournament, but i just run it to test my pc: it can (and does) crash all the time no matter what i'm doing, but if i run unreal tournament i can see if the problem is solved or not, instead of just turning my pc on and wait untill it crashes...
