Help setting up Dell 190FP please

I just bought a Dell 1907FP and am using a Radeon 9600se 128mb video card. Computer is Dimension 4500 WinXP home. I used the cable with the white ends to hook up to the computer. DVI I think it was called
I did get it hooked up and everything looks fine. What I don’t understand if I press the self-test button the analog looks just fine and I have the colors. When I press it a second time the digital I’m getting nothing except the number 2 floating around. Should I be getting a digital signal running the self test? When I press the menu button it states at the bottom “digital input” and then the resolution.
I’ve read my book on the Radeon and the manual on my new monitor. What am I missing?

This is where I loose you. "The analog looks fine". You can't be getting an analog signal if you only hooked up the DVI Digital Cable with the white ends. Something is not correct and I don't mean anything you did, it maybe the LCD. The LCD should be showing you a digital signal only. You only used one cable from the PC to the monitor correct? That's all it requires. Did you install a driver for the monitor from the cd that came with it? I'm assuming you have one.

I have 2407's and just trying to figure this one out. I would look for that monitor driver, install it from the cd, for Dell PC's it's usually needed to correct issues like this.

    Hope it helps :)

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Yes I only hooked up one cable, the white ended one. Yes the drivers I installed came off the CD.
When I press the self test button I get all the colors on test "one" the alalog input test. When I press the self test button a second time for digital I just get the number 2 floating around, no colors.
I thought maybe my video card did not do digital out or something. I'm at a loss. Not computer smart but can follow directions

Not sure what the problem is, but what you're referring to as the self test button is actually the Input Selection button.

The floating 'Dell Self Test Feature Check' panel appears if the monitor cannot sense a video signal. So what you see for input 1 is to be expected. The digital input (2) is the problem.
What resolution is displayed when you press the Menu button?
What resolution were you running on the PC before you connected the monitor? Recommended mode is 1280 X 1024 @ 60Hz.
You may need to go back and check your graphics card settings (using another monitor or the VGA cable) - things like multiple displays and resolution.

Thanks so much gpro I was afraid all had forgot me
I'm using the resolution you stated 1280 X 1024 @ 60Hz. I'm not sure what I was using before but it was smaller.
I have tried different resolutions as you suggested, same results, the number "2" self test is not working just the number floating around no colors.
I will try the vga cable that was provided. As far as trying different monitors I dont have another LCD this one is new and the one I was using before was the very large and heavy crt (is that what it's called?) Dell 992
I'm not sure what you mean like changing "displays" but I will look. This ATI card has so many functions to choose from but I'm sure I will find it
I hope your suggestions work I'm really upset and disappointed so far. I've been saving a long time to buy this monitor

It would be good if you can get it to work with the vga (d-sub) connection. If it does work, then try the dvi cable again and if it still does not work then the cable or monitor could be defective & require an exchange. There is the small possibility that the v/cards dvi may be faulty but I have never come across this problem before so I would consider it unlikely. DVI (digital) is the best connection since digital all the way through is superior to vga (d-sub/analog) that converts a digital signal to analog & then back to digital.
Keep us informed & we will try to help.
    cheers

didn't jump in earlier because I had no idea what the problem was :)
However, the 992 CRT can display 1600 x 1200 (don't know what the optimum res would be), so I'm thinking maybe the graphics card is still set up for a res that is too big for the 1907. Karen needs to get back in there somehow and check. (Use the old monitor if you still have it, and change the resolution to 1280 X 1024 @ 60Hz.)

If this were the case wouldn't the monitor show something like 'out of range'?
Very hard when you can't do a 'hands on'.
    cheers

yeah, you would think so, but I don't know this monitor so I'm not assuming anything.
