How to clean my Dell monitor?

I recently bought a new Dell Computer with the 17"E171FPB Flat Panel Display Monitor. My question is there any special way to clean the screen. And more important, what not to clean it with. Also I have heard some talk that you should not touch the screen with your fingers, is this true. Thanks for any help offered. Sincerely, Phil

Use a lint free cloth dampened with warm water. Don't use solvents that contain ammonia and alcohol.

It's not touching it that matters, it's pressing on it too hard that can damage it. You pretty much want to limit any forceful pressure on it.

Very good advise, but unfortunately they do get finger prints and God knows what else.  There is nothing normally found in the home that will properly clean a coated monitor screen as far as I'm concerned other than Isopropyl alcohol, which I don't use.  ( a small dab on a soft cotton white Tee shirt works fine)

ph7ash,

It's a good idea not to touch Any monitor screen for any reason, but that's not the real world as finger prints do happen.  LCD's are more delicate to the touch than CRT's and thus require gentle handling with limited touching of the screen.

When cleaning the screen is necessary special care is paramount. #1 be gentle.  #2 special cleaners are available that are made just for this purpose.  Some come in the form of handy wipes the size of condom packets.  #3 there are different types of alcohol most are not to be used on coated display screens.  Of these there is only one type that I know of that is ok to use and that is called Isopropyl alcohol.  Plain water will not clean the screen of finger prints properly.

I use the display cleaner towelette that come in the condom size packets. It's called Kleen Screen and is made by Zee Medical Inc. located in Irvine California.  I clean my CRT screen only when I can not bare it any longer.  The screen is one of the things I am most careful of.
