New XPS Gen 3

Just received my XPS Gen 3 today with the 2001 FP display.  It's really very sweet in terms of system speed.  And while I'm impressed with the monitor, I'm wondering if I'm at the optimum setting.  I've only had CRT's in the past.

 

My question is about the monitor.  I've hooked up the (white) DVI cable and apparently I'm running at 1024x768.  Should I boost that to the 1600 level?  Second question....is the S/video cable an option on this system?  I have the X800 pro ATI card.

    I can answer your first question...LCD's look much better at their default resolution and the 1024 x 768 is not it.  Set it at the default resolution and you will see a difference ( 1600 x 1200 ) . Changing the default resolution in an LCD will give you a fuzzy image as oppose to a CRT, which you can change resolutions.  Don't know about the S/video cable.  Did not get one for my monitor from Dell.  Look at your order slip and maybe that will tell you.  Normally it is an added cost from another vendor.

    I have older eyes and had to change the font size in the advanced tab of the display. I also tuned up the fonts using clear type settings  http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cleartype/tuner/1.htm
