P2217H, not recognizing Surface Dock 2

Question

I recently purchased a Surface Dock 2, but when I try to connect my Dell P2217H to the new dock, it says 'No HDMI signal from your device'. I'm using a HDMI to USB-C cable. My computer recognizes a monitor is attached, but the monitor isn't acknowledging the connection. When I unplug the USB-C from the Surface Dock 2, and plug it directly into the laptop, the Dell P2217H is able to recognize the HDMI signal and it works fine. I was really hoping the Surface Dock 2 could help minimize all the things I have to unplug/plug in each time I want to move my laptop. Is there another solution?

Unknown Laptop USB-C --> USB-C to HDMI cable --> P2217H HDMI in port = Works. This proves that the USB-C to HDMI cable and P2217H HDMI in port are working.

Unknown Laptop USB-C --> Surface Dock 2; Surface Dock 2 USB-C --> USB-C to HDMI cable --> P2217H HDMI in port = Not working

Unknown compatibility issue. Test all four Surface Dock 2 USB-C ports. If still not working, post the issue on the Microsoft Surface Forum.
