S2722QC, MacBook Air M2, flickers and freezes?

Dell external monitor would flicker occasionally, no pattern of use was identified to cause the problems. It's weird. In addition to flickering, the monitor would have a semi-transparent layer of the entire screen frozen. For example, if I were on the Google news page few minutes ago and now on Facebook, a thin semi-transparent layer of Google news page overlaying on top of the Facebook page. I can still see and do things on the Facebook page. When I unplug the USB-C connection to my laptop, the semi-transparent layer remains there, except that this time it's more visible because of the black background on the monitor. The semi-transparent layer gets dimmer over time and eventually disappears after 10-15 mins. However, the flickering only goes away after a very long time, perhaps hours or overnight.

Turning on and off monitor and unplugging from power supply didn't help. The refresh rate is 60 Hz if that matters. My partner also uses the same monitor, but this seems to only happen to me, occasionally. I use MacBook Air M2, and she uses a Dell laptop.

Any ideas to troubleshoot or resolve this issue?

Thank you.

@gctsoCorrect! The S series monitors are not validated on macOS.

Your Macbook can output up to 6K at 60Hz - whilst the 60Hz would not be a problem, the 6K might be. Have you tried resetting the monitor configuration to its defaults?

What ports are you using USB-C and HDMI? The problem could be that the monitor is not auto adjusting for the change of source.

@Kennabytes Thank you for the response. I have been using USB-C port. I'm not sure what 6K means exactly. I just know that the display is set to 1920x1080. Not sure how many K that is. As for refresh rate, there are other options too: 20Hz, 25 Hz, 30Hz, 60 Hz, and variable (40-60 Hz). If 60Hz may default to a 6K output, perhaps I can try 30Hz or variable?

What specific Dell monitor model?

Since the issue does not present itself when using the Dell Laptop running Windows OS, the unknown monitor hardware is OK.

To receive assistance from Dell chat Technical support, they need to first verify the warranty status. Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. Provide to them the private monitor Service Tag.

1920x1080 at 60Hz is a standard configuration. Your monitor will have no issue with this.

When you say your partner uses the same monitor, do you mean the same one as you, or the same model as you? If it's the later I would suggest swapping monitors to see if the problem persists.

@Kennabytes We shared one monitor - same monitor, same USB-C cord. It's interesting this happens because wouldn't that suggest the Dell monitor is not compatible with Mac Air?
