S2722QC, USB-C Mac resolution issue
Hi
We have over 20 S2722QC monitors in our office, and have found that they are not consistently able to display 4k resolution at 60Hz via USB-C when connected to Macs. Some monitors can, some can't.
I have read the posts suggesting that the monitor settings need to be changed to USB-C Prioritization -> High Resolution. Unfortunately, while this does allow for 60Hz operation, elements on the display appear fuzzy and unclear, as the full 4k resolution is not supported.
When set to 'High Resolution':
The monitor displays:
USB-C input
2560x1440 60hz 24-bit
Data: USB 2.0
The display appears fuzzy and I am not able to select higher than 2560x1440 in the MacOS display settings.
When set to 'High Data Speed':
The monitor displays:
USB-C Input
2160p 30-bit
Data: USB 3.2 Gen1
The display is clear, and able to run at full 4k resolution, but the refresh rate is limited to a maximum of 30Hz.
What's really strange is that not all of our monitors behave this way, at least two of the monitors are not able to display full 4k at 60Hz over USB-C, and at least two of them can. They are exactly the same model number. I have replicated every setting from the monitors that work to the ones that don't, but it still doesn't fix the issue. All monitors are running M3B201 firmware. I have also tried a range of different USB-C cables, but this hasn't made a difference.
I have replicated this on both a M3 Macbook Air and a M1 Macbook Air.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

FAQ Dell monitor and Apple
Most of the Dell D, E, G, P, S, SE, Alienware monitors have no Apple macOS support from Dell. As a consideration to macOS users, some of these monitors might have been provided a firmware update that can be run from the macOS. But that does not provide full Technical Support for these monitors with macOS.
Go to the Apple Forum and enter your specific Dell monitor model in the top search bar. Read through any existing threads. If need be, start a new thread detailing your hardware and issue.

I had a similar issue and found a solution using the UGreen video switch with 2 x USB-C and 1 x HDMI out (they also offer a version with 1 x USB-C, 1 x HDMI in, and 1 x HDMI out), which costs around US$20 ali x press
My setup involves a Mac mini M4 connected via USB-C to a Dell S2721QS monitor. The problem was that after waking from sleep, the Mac wouldn’t retain the higher resolution settings. I had to physically unplug and reconnect the cable each time to restore the proper resolution. Since using this video switch, the issue has been resolved.
