SP2008WFP - WebCam no longer recognized by XP

I am not sure whether it is a Dell or a Microsoft problem, but since yesterday Windows XP pops up a balloon with "USB Device not recognized" when I turn off and on the Monitor. Clicking into the balloon there is a "unknown device" message for the USB port where the monitor is connected. Double clicking on the "unknown device message" opens a window with the silly "no driver installed" Message. Of course is the Webcam Center, Driver etc installed from the CD-ROM.
The whole story started after the latest MS Updates. So I'm not sure if one of these updates causes the problem.
I'm using MS Windows XP SP2, German version. The monitor is not yet a week old, and worked fine until this morning.

Please reinstall the Dell WebCam drivers and restart the PC. Any difference?

I tried to reinstall the Driver software before. It told me that I tried to reinstall a previous installed version and asked to connect the USB cable, which was installed.
I deinstalled the whole Webcam Center, etc rebooted. Installed the whole Webcam software again. During the installation process the Setup asked again to connect the monitor (which was and is connected all the time, I checked it). After the reboot Windows did not recognize the Monitor - unknown device-
I changed the USB ports. I plugged the MOnitor in the Port where the mouse was and vice versa. The mouse is still running the Montor still a unknown device.....
I have no clue whatsoever this could be......

I do think the USB Device one the monitor is dead. (I plugged the USB cable to a Inspiron 1520 with build in webcam and vista installed. Same result "unknown device". I cannot mail/chat to/with the technical support, because the webside asks for a service tag, which my monitor does not have. I can not use the failure tools because the monitor is not listed in the selections. What do I make wrong? I have a 3yrs replacement warranty but no other way to ask the support than call?

I did every step, double checked it. But instead of an additional generic USB Hub I got a new "unknown device" or unfortunately the same as before.
Is there any possibility to check if the Monitor USB hardware is OK?

* Disconnect the monitor USB uplink cable from the PC
* Remove the Dell Webcam software and drivers from Control Panel- Add/Remove programs
* Click Start- Shutdown- Shutdown- Ok
* Power off the monitor
* Disconnect all cables from the monitor (USB, power, etc.)
* Disconnect all monitor cables from the PC (USB, VGA, DVI, etc.)
* While disconnected, press and hold the monitor power button down for 3 seconds
* Reconnect the power cord to the monitor
* Reconnect the monitor VGA or DVI cable to the PC video card
* Power on the monitor if it does not power on by itself
* Power on the PC
* Press the Input Source Select button to choose either VGA or DVI
* Once into windows, open the Device Manager (Press the Windows key and the Pause-Break key)
* Click the Hardware tab
* Click the Device Manager button
* Click the plus by Universal Serial Bus Controllers (notate what is listed)
* Connect the USB Uplink cable from the monitor to a USB port on the rear of the PC
* Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, you should see additional Generic USB Hubs
* This means the monitors Hubs were seen by the operating system
* Check the webcam by using Yahoo Messenger or MSN Live Messenger

the replacement works fine. Only the Webcam console is installed so far (or Windows did this after connecting the monitor?!?!?) and nothing more to complain. Thanks for your support!
