What computer model? What specific video card? What video out ports are on the video card?

U2412M video in ports = Display Port, DVI, VGA
U2412M cables provided = VGA, DVI

HDMI out from a computer cannot upconvert to DP (DisplayPort) on a monitor. Look at the rear bottom of the XPS 8500 Do you see a video card with video out ports like 10, 11 in the picture? Or are you using 7?

Ok. What is the service tag number on the rear of the tower?

* Turn both the XPS 8500 and the U2412M off
* Connect like this =
XPS 8500 Radeon HD 7570 DVI out --> U2412M DVI to DVI cable --> U2412M DVI in
* Turn them both on
* Press the U2412M #3 Menu button
* Go to Input Source
* Choose DVI
* Exit the Menu

Sorry all three are the same U2412M and to hook up the third I need to use the HDMI port on the XPS8500

Three monitors? I needed to know that at the beginning. What are the other two monitor models? Using this formula, describe exactly how those two are hooked up. Example =

XPS 8500 Radeon HD 7570 DVI out --> DVI to DVI cable --> U2412M DVI in

The XPS 8500 cannot use the onboard HDMI or VGA out ports because you have the PCIe x16 Radeon HD 7570 video card installed. Your only option is to add a PCIe x1 video card and install it in one of the PCIe x1 slots on the motherboard. The result is you will have two video cards installed. I would look for an AMD Radeon to match your current video card.

I had a third Monitor hooked up that used HDMI but it went bad.  I bought a 3rd U2412M because i like them so the computer will do three monitors in its current configuration

Maybe the bios has been updated to achieve this.
* Restart the XPS 8500
* Press F2 at DELL logo page to enter System Setup
* Go to Advanced- Onboard Device Configuration
* Enable Multi-Display
* Press F10 to Save and Exit

Because you bought a monitor that only has DP/DVI/VGA, you will still need to purchase additional stuff to make this work from the XPS 8500 onboard HDMI out. You have three choices =

XPS 8500 onboard HDMI out --> HDMI to DVI cable --> 3rd monitor DVI in

XPS 8500 onboard HDMI out --> HDMI to VGA adapter --> VGA to VGA cable --> 3rd monitor VGA in

XPS 8500 onboard HDMI out --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> HDMI in to DP out converter --> DP to DP cable --> 3rd monitor DP in
