U2717D to a new macbook pro with Thunderbolt 3 ports

My new Macbook Pro has just four Thunderbolt 3 ports and since Apple no longer sells Thunderbolt monitors, I chose this monitor based upon a recommendation from an internet web site, appleinsider.com: appleinsider.com/.../roundup-the-best-external-monitor-alternatives-to-apples-discontinued-thunderbolt-display

I see in the literature where I can connect using HDMI (MHL), DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort and also in the literature where this unit Features USB 3.0 hub, but not how to connect to this computer

Can you help or should I just return the unit?

Thanks,

Ed

You need a dongle. Plugable dont have one yet for your laptop. The only Apple approved dongle will get you FHD.

An apple dongle may be used to power your laptop as well as provide a HDMI port for FHD resolution; the Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter will possibly work though Apple say it works only for Apple Thunderbolt Display.

From Apple compatibility pages,

The Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter doesn't support connections to these devices:

   Apple DisplayPort display

DisplayPort devices or accessories, such as Mini DisplayPort to HDMI or Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapters

4K Mini DisplayPort displays that don’t have Thunderbolt

Apple support article HT206587 provides a ray of hope, though they havent provided any advice on where to find a suitable adapter or display. Perhaps someone else can advise you if the Dell monitor is capable of HDMI 2.0

From the Apple support page -

MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015) and later, as well as late-2016 MacBook Pro models, support these resolutions and refresh rates over HDMI 1.4b using the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter:

3840x2160 at 30 Hz refresh rate

4096x2160 at 24 Hz refresh rate (mirroring is not supported at this resolution)

MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016) and late-2016 MacBook Pro models support 60Hz refresh rates over HDMI when used with a supported HDMI 2.0 display, an HDMI Premium Certified cable, and a supported USB-C to HDMI 2.0 adapter.
